PURPOSE OF THE POSITION


The Manager Electrical Systems and Data reports to the Senior Director of Locomotive Technology. The position is responsible for managing and supporting the design, development and integration of the electronics and control systems onboard locomotives developed as part of CPKC’s hydrogen locomotive program


You will be responsible for making decisions within this dynamic and fast paced environment, keeping suppliers aligned with timelines, upholding leadership in safety and ensuing procedures and documents for the safe operation, maintenance, and testing of onboard locomotive systems by the technical teams are followed. The successful candidate must be team oriented and open to work collaboratively to meet strict timelines.


POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:


  • Support continuous improvement of existing technology and further development of standards and processes
  • Hold team accountable to timelines escalating risks and issues in a timely manner
  • Finalize designs and supporting production, installation and maintenance documentation for sign-off by the Chief Engineer
  • Provide hands-on support for technical teams
  • Manage and support the electrical, electronics and control systems teams to deliver hydrogen locomotive platforms
  • Develop and maintain product roadmaps and update executive stakeholders on project progress
  • Coach and mentor team members and participate in knowledge sharing sessions
  • Make critical design decisions based on technical input to deliver project milestones on-time
  • Hold electrical and control system suppliers accountable to delivery timelines
  • Adhere to Canadian Pacific’s health and safety policy


POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


  • Ability and willingness to be “hands-on” an asset
  • An Engineering degree from an accredited university in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline is required
  • Experience with hydrogen, battery supply chains, locomotives and/or industrial equipment an asset;
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Operational environment experience drilling down and driving solutions an asset
  • Valid passport, ability to travel to the United States, Mexico, Europe, and Asia without restrictions
  • Practical hands-on experience (automotive repair, robotics, renovation) an asset
  • Must be able to write clear and concise reports which will be distributed to high level management
  • Ability to travel mostly to domestic locations and respond to calls occasionally after hours and on weekends
  • Must be registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGA or eligible for registration
  • Must have demonstrated experience in managing electrical and control system design from conception to implementation

Management Conductor Program:


Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
