Department OverviewThe Wealth Shelf Management & Investment Research Team provides product shelf management and strategic thought leadership for Wealth's distribution businesses. The team manages product onboarding, governs decisions and long-term plans for product shelves and platforms, while providing distribution oversight of TD proprietary deposit and investment products. The team blends a strong due diligence approach, acting as the forward-thinking conscious of the business in collaboration with Financial Planning, Private Wealth Management, Direct Investing, Wealth Governance & Control, Risk, and Compliance. The IMR team working within Wealth Shelf Management & Investment Research, is the TD Bank Group center of excellence and subject matter experts relating to all managed investment research. IMR is responsible and accountable for helping to build, maintain and enhance all investment products, Preferred Lists and oversight that is available across TD Wealth. The TD Wealth Investment Manager Research ("IMR") team within Wealth Shelf Management and Investment Research is the TD Bank Group's center of excellence and subject matter experts relating to all managed investment product research. Reporting to the Head of Alternative Investments, IMR, the Analyst, Alternative Investments Manager Research, is a key member of the SMIR Team and is responsible for conducting onboarding due diligence, as well as, on-going oversight of TD Wealth's approved and preferred list offering memorandum or prospectus based alternative investment products. In addition, the Analyst's responsibility includes providing investment manager research support to the TD Wealth business channels.


It Requires


Job DetailsThe role is a multi -faceted one, requiring a high degree of technical competency and in-depth industry knowledge.


  • Substantial interaction with investment managers, as well as operations, risk, legal and compliance departments, and various internal product support groups
  • A thorough understanding and commitment to TD Wealth Management's objectives, including providing TD clients with access to best-in-class managers and strategies, and delivering greater value over the long-term through downside protection
  • Expert knowledge of investment management strategies, capital markets and regulatory framework with focus on Offering Memorandum funds and Prospectus-based alternative mutual funds


Key Accountabilities Of The Role Include


  • Lead the annual and quarterly due diligence process for alternative investment fund companies on the platform; involves working with third party firms to complete RFIs
  • Leadership and coordination of due diligence assessments across alternative investment products, taking a lead role with senior-level asset manager personnel and presenting to various TD Wealth committees from a product shelf perspective
  • Organize, prepare for and effectively execute periodic investment manager interviews
  • Conduct initial screening and evaluation as well as ongoing reviews/analysis of specific alternative investment managers and mandates, becoming attuned to the firm's philosophy, people, process and performance
  • Analyzing responses to ensure compliance with guidelines and presenting non-compliant firms and products to the Investment Risk Committee for review
  • Monitor alternatives, including private markets mandates on the TD Wealth preferred lists for performance versus expectations
  • Research and write timely alternative fund specific research notes/articles consistent with TD Wealth business strategy


Other Accountabilities Of The Role Include


  • Stay current of industry events and to participate in related company initiatives
  • Track new development and noteworthy market news particularly on approved firm and products
  • Lead the preparation of updates and timely research on significant capital market events, assisting other divisions with content for print materials
  • Maintain and develop relationships with alternative investments and private markets managers
  • Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism
Job Requirements


  • Strong analytical skills
  • Proven knowledge of financial markets with expertise in alternatives, including private market strategies
  • Strong understanding of capital markets and specialized knowledge/experience in due diligence and/or investment manager research fields
  • Well organized, detail oriented and able to execute well in a multi -task environment
  • The ability to work both as part of a team and independently to complete tasks, including working over and above a regular workday as required
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, and able to present to senior executive member
  • Ability to use technology to obtain and efficiently analyze information
  • Strong time management, prioritization and organizational skills are required to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
