Job Description
The EH&S Advisor will be committed to developing a healthy and safe work environment for all our team members through hands-on, field-based collaboration with front-line supervisors and employees. With the support of a national team, you will be relied upon to bring support and guidance in the health and safety field, allowing you to advise on various unique obstacles that we face on a day-to-day basis. Working closely with our operational team, the Safety Advisor will ensure that safety is at the top of the mind for all team members and at the forefront of all daily activities. Frequent travel (70%) will be required.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Conduct Onboarding/Orientations for new hires
  • Formulates improvement to EHS program
  • Streamlining communication within EHS & Operations
  • Supports the day-to-day administration activities of GFL operations on all EHS matters
  • Ensures compliance to the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Construction & Industrial Regulations and other pertinent legislation
  • Other duties as prescribed by the Senior Manager
  • Attend client/project meetings where required
  • Interface with the public through projects imbedded within the community, Regulatory officials, Safe Work Associations & Suppliers/Vendors
  • Manages and supports all EHS programs; COR, ISO 450001, Flex, Subcontractor Management and Return to Work
  • Prepare reports and project updates as it relates to the EHS performance
  • Ensures compliance for all customer programs such as ISN Networld, Avetta, and Contractor Check
  • Assist the Senior Manager, EHS in company pursuits with marketing strategies, prequalification's, bids and proposals, related to health & safety
  • Manages & supports training & development programs


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:


  • A team player that accepts and can manage change regularly
  • Time management skills
  • Degree, Diploma or Professional Certification in H&S or related field of study preferred
  • Train the trainer in some of the required field level training (Fire Extinguisher, Confined Space etc.)
  • 3-5+ years of experience within a similar on-site Environmental Health & Safety role, with previous experience within Waste Management, Transportation or Construction industry preferred
