Term of App't: Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week

Salary/Benefits
Excluded position: Grid 8, $67,455.00 - $89,940.00 annually, depending on experience and qualifications as per NLC's Excluded Salary Scale. An excellent benefit package is offered, including extended health and dental benefits. Annual vacation is pro-rated and front-loaded, based on 210 hours/FTE, as well as time off paid for the period between Christmas and New Year's Day. Enrolment in the College Pension Plan is mandatory for those in this role, with the standard contributions matched by the employer.
Description
Under the general direction of the Executive Director of HR & Payroll, the Health, Safety and Environment Advisor is responsible for the development, management and administration of the Northern Lights College occupational health, safety, and workplace environment programs and activities in accordance with the mission, values, goals, and policies of Northern Lights College.
The HSE Advisor will liaise with WorksafeBC officers on behalf of the College by accompanying the officers for an inspection on the College premises, communicating on behalf of the College, and by helping to coordinate meetings between the College and WorksafeBC.
In this position, you will ensure that the college complies with WorksafeBC and other governing requirements including the Fire Protection Act. This includes monthly campus inspections, monthly consultations with the Joint OH&S Committees, conducting investigations, and consulting and providing advice to employees to aid in safety and prevention.
In this role, there is a responsibility of a budget of approximately <$200,000.00.

• Travel will be required as this role will be expected to be on the Dawson Creek campus two days a week, on a continuing basis.

Qualifications
The successful applicant will meet the technical requirements for this job by meeting the requirements below:

• WHMIS instructor certified.
• Certificate or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field of study.
• Five years of direct relatable experience.
• A thorough knowledge of the principles, regulations and legislation of Occupational Health and Safety.
• Current, valid driver's license.

Preferred

• Bachelor's degree in OH&S
• Previous experience in a unionized environment.
• Certified as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional.
