Job Summary
The Prosecution Legal Assistant provides administrative support to the Prosecution Manager and all Prosecutors, responds to internal and external inquiries and attends to the Prosecution Office customer service window.
The Prosecution Legal Assistant will be required to work in the Prosecution Office located at the Provincial Offences Court and will have the opportunity to work remotely on a rotating basis.
The Prosecution Legal Assistant reports to the Manager of Prosecutions.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Successful Candidate Will
  • Liaise with Prosecutors to ensure Body Worn Camera evidence is reviewed for possible redaction before video evidence is disclosed to requestors
  • Use the Court Administration Management System (CAMS) for e-filing of documents and correspondence
  • Open new prosecution files in iManage
  • Review and direct inquiries related to Part III charges
  • Comply with all relevant City policies
  • Participate in corporate projects and initiatives
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with City staff, the Judiciary, legal representatives, internal and external enforcement agencies and members of the public
  • Prepare electronic court dockets, summonses to witness, affidavits of service and notices of motion
  • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times and comply with MFIPPA
  • Coordinate, order and organize office supplies
  • Receive, review and disclose Prosecution Briefs for POA Part I offences
  • Conduct ICON searches to respond to inquiries and determine case status
  • Prepare, update and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures
Skills And Qualifications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years legal administrative experience, Prosecution or Court Administration experience preferred
  • Post secondary legal or legal administrative education
  • Experience using CAMS, ICON and iManage is preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe and Excel
  • Analytical skills to identify material for disclosure
  • Knowledge of the Provincial Offences Act and its regulations
  • Conflict resolution skills to assist in interactions with difficult customers
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 31.75 - $ 42.34
Hours of Work: 8:30am to 4:30pm
