The Opportunity
Our Government Relations team is looking to add an #EnergyProblemSolver in Ottawa to support our lobbying compliance program at TC Energy.
We are seeking a Legal Assistant who has knowledge and experience in the development and execution of enterprise-wide compliance regimes related to Canadian lobbying laws and regulations at the federal, provincial and municipal level. This individual has the proven skills, competencies and capacity to ensure TC Energy maintains an accurate account and reporting of all lobbying interactions across Canada.
What You’ll Do
  • Maintaining ticklers (reminders) for registrations, reporting and filing deadlines
  • Coordinating lobbyist registrations/renewals and required reporting at various levels of government
  • Communication with all TC Energy employees on lobbying compliance responsibilities at all levels of government in Canada
  • Monitoring parliamentary/legislative proceedings, government/legislative websites, and news media, for developments related to the practice of Political Law
  • Drafting, filing and coordinating lobbyist registrations/renewals and required reporting at various levels of government
  • Other tasks as required
  • Interaction with clients to obtain and clarify information related to Political Law filings
  • Searching government and legislative websites to confirm the content of filings
  • Drafting reports and filings under other Political Law legislation, including election-related returns and conflict of interest disclosures
Minimum Qualifications
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Completion of a recognized college diploma in Law Clerk, Legal Assistant or Paralegal studies
  • A minimum of 4+ years of experience in the legal or regulatory environment preferably as a law clerk or legal assistant
  • Precision and attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, possesses ability and interest to learn new technology
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of politics and/or public administration would be an asset
  • Familiarity with federal, provincial or municipal government organization and structure
  • Member in good standing with the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario would be considered an asset
  • Past experience with or exposure to lobbyist registration process
  • Proven team player with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize effectively
