Are you a Junior Accountant looking for an exciting opportunity in the construction industry? Look no further! Our company is an established Residential High-Rise Construction Developer and Property Manager with a proven track record of successful projects in Ontario. We have a number of ongoing and future projects and are seeking a motivated Junior Accountant to join our Construction Accounting team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting with day-to-day functions and reporting, ensuring accurate and timely financial information is available for decision-making. Job Duties
- Maintain historical records by filing documents.
- Review, scan, and fill trades contracts, and create Excel to track vendor BTD
- Print cheques and send them out for the second signature
- Post invoices and create back charges, performing accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
- Contact the assigned project manager or the right person for approval
- Review accounts payable and accounts receivable, and process payments
- Reconcile bank statements on a monthly basis
- Assist with vendor phone calls and emails
- Work closely with Construction Project Managers to ensure coding accuracy and compliance with budgets
- Review and record inter-company transactions
- Coordinate with the software team for proper system implementation and issue resolution
- Update and maintain project budgets, ensuring accurate data interface between systems
- Prepare project funding draws and review AP work
- Perform intercompany entries
- Prepare and process regular monthly fund transfers through EFT and cheques
- Research account transactions to identify and resolve discrepancies
- Prepare and file monthly HST return
- Record and transfer incomes and expenses, and post necessary journal entries
- Balance the general ledger by preparing a trial balance and reconciling entries
- Maintain the general ledger of accounts through daily recordkeeping, verifying, allocating, and posting transactions
- Act as the point of contact for system-related issues
- Assist with month-end and year-end processes and tasks
Qualifications:
- Continuous quality improvement process mentality
- 2 years of accounting experience preferred
- Post-Secondary Education in Finance, Accounting or Commerce required
- Experience using YARDI, QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel and other accounting-related software applications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
