Job Summary:


The Publicity & Marketing Intern is directly accountable for the execution of initiatives, promotional


plans and partnerships for the Harlequin Brand Group to increase awareness, develop audiences to drive


sales to meet the group’s strategic and financial objectives.


Reporting to the Manager, Harlequin Publicity and Communications, the Publicity & Marketing Intern will


work on a variety of initiatives for the Harlequin Brand Group’s publishing programs that fall under the


New Product & Business Development Initiatives team.


This team works closely with the brand marketing, editorial, art and sales departments to develop and


raise awareness for books and imprints through the creation of ads and sales collateral, and through


publicity efforts such as earned media coverage, bookstore events and campaigns, and industry events


like conferences and panels.


In this role, the Publicity & Marketing Intern will act as an ambassador for our books and authors, and be


responsible for researching bylines, media outlets and trends as well as creating press materials,


completing additional research projects and coordinating workback schedules and execution for ad


creative and sales collateral.


Responsibilities


Publicity Execution & Communication: (60%)


  • Research media contacts and trends, and pitch journalists, book reviewers, and podcast
  • Within a team, research, organize and execute media campaigns, online reviews and features.

and manage media lists, and log media hits and interest.


  • Staff support includes organizing mailings, creating shipping labels, ordering books from


warehouse, and coordinating mailings with our off-site warehouse.


  • Pulling materials together at manager’s requests/needs.


Marketing Execution & Communication (40%)


  • Help APM with sales materials including: copy writing, system inputs, execution and


communication


  • Work with key stakeholders to ensure on-time development, presentation, communication and


execution of plans as per seasonal work-back schedules


  • In partnership with the APM, promotions team and cross-functional groups participate in the


development and execution of marketing plans and creative to achieve objectives and ROI


Qualifications


Qualifications:


  • Ability to pay close attention to detail in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • High degree of initiative and independence, and the ability to anticipate needs.
  • High level of organization and record-keeping.
  • Proven ability to deliver timely, accurate work product, manage multiple deadlines, and demonstrate solid follow through.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects with strong time management and prioritization skills.


Competencies and skills required to perform this job include:


  • Creativity, enthusiasm, and a love of books are a must.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; collaboration, persuasion, and problem-solving skills, with the aptitude to communicate effectively in both individual and group settings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including a basic understanding of Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
