The Pacific National Exhibition is an iconic institution in BC, famous for bringing generations of people together to celebrate and build memories. This 113-year-old, non-profit organization has an annual operating budget of over $70 million dollars and generates revenue through four activity streams: the 15-day annual summer Fair and winter Fair which average more than 700,000 people annually, Playland amusement park which welcomes 400,000 guests annually including Fright Nights, and a busy year-round portfolio of events including concerts, trade shows and film, cultural and community events. In total we bring over 2 million people through the site each year. The fourth activity stream is park care and facility maintenance. Our Housekeepers will report to the Event Sweeper Foreperson and/or the Manager of Tech Services.

Please Note: This position will be part-time event based. Shifts range from 4-8 hours. Must be able to work a variety of shifts, including graveyard and weekend shifts.

What will you do this year?

In your role as a Housekeeper – Graveyard, your primary accountabilities will be to:

• May be required to wear a radio and answer calls as required.
• Clean assigned areas in PNE event venues, including the seating surfaces, the seating bowl and/or press areas.
• Assist other departments with areas requiring cleaning.
• Clean event related signage as required.
• Maintain cleanliness of assigned washrooms; wash and disinfect all sinks, mirrors and toilets, sweep and mop floors, and maintain a dry floor surface at all times.
• Greet guests in a courteous and professional manner.
• Clean and disinfect F&B condiment stations, counters and tabletops. Ensure all countertops are clear of garbage (ie-cups, food waste, etc).
• Empty garbage containers, recycling containers, diversion stations, compost and wastepaper receptacles.
• Ensure PNE Uniform and Appearance policy is adhered to at all times.
• Sweep and mop assigned areas; remove all debris and tripping hazards.
• Replenish all supplies in facilities as required, and keep supplies locked up at all other times.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Ensure that proper protocols are followed for cleaning specific waste materials (i.e. protein spills).

What else?

• Must be available to work a part-time, event-based schedule with graveyard shift availability.
• Sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit the performance of assigned tasks (i.e. repeated climbing of stairs and standing for extended periods of time).
• Capable of working at heights and lifting heavy materials up to WCB restrictions.
• Previous janitorial experience preferred.
• Physically able to work in awkward positions.
• Must be capable of reading, writing and speaking English for the purposes of written or oral instructions, timesheets and documentation of work.
• Candidates must undergo a Criminal Record Check.
• Knowledge of the hazards and proper safety precautions of the construction trades.
