This is a 12 month contract with a chance of permanent placement
2 days in office in Mississauga
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Supports the implementation of new accounting and financial reporting requirements under IFRS by modifying existing reports, models, database and other system changes
- Provide guidance and support to accounting group and other business units to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal processes, IFRS and Modified IFRS
- Ensure integrity of financial reporting by managing general ledger chart of accounts, including maintaining, updating and mapping of new accounts
- Preparation of quarterly and annual IFRS financial statements and related financial statement notes
- Assists with external financial statement audits through the preparation of supporting documentation and reviewing of confidential payroll information required to the auditors
- Preparation of monthly management disclosure and analysis (i.e., year-over-year analysis)
- Identifies and recommends process or procedural improvements to improve the quality and timeliness of financial information and to increase operational efficiency and effectiveness for financial reporting
- Provides financial data analysis and expertise to assist other departments in attaining their respective objectives relative to process and data quality improvement
- Ensures compliance to legislative, regulatory and Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards
- Monitor IFRS developments, interpret, document and provide recommendations on proper application and implementation of these standards into work processes and key deliverables
- Coordinates month-end closing activities by working collaboratively with various departments and ensures the proper responsibilities and deadlines are set and enforced
- Prepares standard monthly financial reporting package for presentation to senior leadership and Board of Directors (e.g., financial statements and other financial analysis as required, including payroll analysis)
- Continuously improves the efficiency and accuracy of the reporting process including automation of the reporting tools
- Provides technical expertise in the planning, design and implementation of projects and key initiatives
REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of 3 years related work experience including financial reporting and variance analysis
- Knowledge of the energy and utility industries, including a solid understanding of the regulatory environment
- Ability to follow established processes with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Superior proficiency with IT-based automated reporting tools
- Strong technical accounting knowledge of IFRS
- Experience with IBM Cognos, or Workiva Wdesk and Modified IFRS an asset
- Solid problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to provide practical and/or innovative solutions to complex technical issues
- Highly self-motivated and directed
- CA/CPA Designation
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple projects and initiatives within established timelines
- Superior proficiency with Excel application
- Strong written and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical information in an organized and concise way
- Advanced level of knowledge and experience in financial modeling and management reporting
- Proficiency with other MS Office applications
Pay Rate: $40-45/hour depending on experience
