JOB TITLE: COORDINATOR, SPORTS TOURISM

HOURS OF WORK: 35 hour workweek


LOCATION: Hybrid Model* – when working onsite, you will report to the location of City Hall.


SALARY GRADE: 5


HIRING SALARY RANGE: $84,403.00 - $94,954.00 per annum


MAXIMUM OF SALARY RANGE: $105,504.00 per annum

Area Of Responsibility


Reports to the Manager, Tourism, develop and implement sales and marketing strategies to increase tourism to the City of Brampton by soliciting, booking and servicing regional, provincial, national, and international sporting events as well as sport meetings and conventions. Support the creation and implementation of print and digital promotions. Attend trade shows and conventions to attract business. Liaise with sport event organizers and City departments, hoteliers and other tourism stakeholders to ensure successful sport events.


  • COMMUNICATION AND REPORTING
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, departments and team members to achieve common goals and objectives.
  • Develop and maintain print and digital sports marketing materials and sports calendars.
  • Provide input on budget requirements to support anticipated business needs.
  • Responsible for the management of Sport Tourism Hosting Program including call for applications, application review facilitation, recommendations to Director of Strategic Communications, Culture & Events and notification to applicants.
  • Handle and resolve issues and enquiries to meet corporate service standards. Escalate complex issues to appropriate level.
  • BUDGET SUPPORT
  • Responsible for assessing and recommending sport tourism event opportunities utilizing City of Brampton and Canadian Sport Tourism Association criteria.
  • STAFF SUPERVISION
  • Assess and monitor performance and discipline as required to meet operational needs.
  • Develop and contribute content for the production of the annual Visitor Guide, social media and website.
  • Maintain databases, compile and analyze data, statistics and other relevant research materials that track and benefit tourism development strategies.
  • Use of effective resource and expense management at all times to meet corporate policies and guidelines.
  • Maintain knowledge of City policies (affiliation and allocation policies) and practices, legislation, regulations and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • TEAMWORK AND COOPERATION
  • Support City of Brampton initiatives including half-marathon and 10k runs, GT20 cricket, etc.
  • OPERATION SUPPORT
  • Develop sport tourism product in conjunction with appropriate internal and external stakeholders, i.e. cycling, trails and pathways, etc.
  • Evaluate and report on sport event performance using industry recognized calculators.
  • Ensure initiatives and programs are effectively communicated to all stakeholders
  • Supervise staff, prioritize and organize daily work direction to meet operational needs.
  • Create and maintain documentation and ensure necessary sign-offs and approvals meet policies and confidentiality.
  • CUSTOMER SERVICE
  • Coach, mentor and provide guidance and training as required to meet operational needs.
  • Participate in recruitment and hiring process as required to meet operational needs.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the City of Brampton sport tourism strategy.
  • Liaise with staff, community groups, organizations and contractors in a professional manner.
  • Work well within diverse groups to achieve common goals and objectives that meet operational effectiveness and corporate service standards. Cultivate and maintain relationships with event producers, local media, venue managers, academic officials and local, regional, and national sports organizations.
  • Advise management on destination development and other investment opportunities.
  • Prepare management reports, presentations and general ad hoc information as required accurately by established timelines.
  • Manage relationships with accommodation providers in Brampton in support of tourism initiatives and Municipal Accommodation Tax implementation and maintenance.
  • Act as liaison between sport event organizers and City of Brampton departments, Brampton accommodation providers and other tourism stakeholders.

Selection Criteria


EDUCATION:


  • A degree or diploma in sport business administration, marketing, business, travel/tourism or a related discipline.


Required Experience


  • 1-2 years supervisory experience; able to supervise, guide and motivate staff.
  • 3 years experience in the sport tourism/sport events industry, and broad knowledge of hotel operations, meeting planning, customs, and government programs; preferably working for a local municipality, or a government agency or a not-for-profit organization that worked closely with municipal government.
