Financial Controller – Real Estate Development
Richmond Hill, ON – 5 days per week in the office, good work/life balance 9am-5pm (with some peaks of overtime)
$165,000-$175,000 base plus bonus and great benefits
Our client is a real estate company and has an excellent company culture. This is a brand-new position due to growth and the Controller will support the CFO directly in supervisory duties and continuing to bring in new processes to the group.
This Financial Controller will cover accounting, financial reporting, and cash management for a portfolio of real estate development projects with a team of project and general accountants. The Controller will work with the Finance and Planning and Project Management teams to gain a deep understanding of all assigned projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage payroll
- Oversee, review, and ensure accurate and timely completion of the full accounting cycle tasks performed by the team for all assigned projects
- Other duties/projects as assigned from time to time
- Review year-end financial statements along with internally prepared year-end financial statements; review and approve working papers and completed statements
- Manage bank financing lines, loans, letters of credit, investments, and accounts, while monitoring cash and recommending when further financing is required
- Review government reporting (HST, T5018, etc.) and deal with CRA inquiries and/or HST audits
- Manage a team of general and project accountants and provide effective coaching
- Recommend and prepare investor cash calls and distributions when required
Key Requirements:
- CPA designation
- Real estate development industry experience preferred
- University degree required
- 5 years of related experience in accounting and financial management
- Thorough knowledge of all relevant Canadian federal and provincial reporting requirements
- People management experience
