The Opportunity:

Our client in the animal welfare sector is seeking an analytical and detail oriented Financial Analyst to join their team. Reporting to the Controller, the Financial Analyst will lead and support the Finance team for month-end, year-end, and budgeting processes, as well as conducts analysis, interpretation, and communication of key financial and statistical metrics to Department Managers across the organization. This role is remote and can be based anywhere in Ontario.

What You’ll Be Responsible For:

  • Analyzing and interpreting financial and statistical results on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Training and onboarding new and current Accounting Clerk incumbents
  • Providing insights to improve the operational and financial effectiveness of the finance department
  • Monitoring cash flow and initiate transfers, withdrawals, and deposits of funds
  • Recommending investment options and coordinate approved investment transactions with Brokers
  • Leading the month-end process by preparing journal entries for various financial activities such as depreciation, investment income, clinic services, insurance, prepaid expenditures, clearing accounts, bank transfers, and payroll
  • Compiling schedules and working papers for the year-end audit, and provide support in the preparation of the annual budget
  • Leading special projects and provide training to assigned work-teams within the organization
  • Ensuring accurate recording of all Society revenue in the general ledger by maintaining integration from the fundraising system on a monthly basis.
  • Presenting financial information in a manner understandable to both financial and non-financial audiences.
  • Maintaining continuity schedules monthly for fixed assets, prepaids, investments, and distributions to affiliates
  • Performing monthly reconciliation and preparing monthly financial statements
  • Providing support and leadership to Accounting Clerk position(s) in their daily activities
  • Developing financial projections and construct financial models.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • 3-5 years of related experience as a financial analyst or staff accountant
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to effectively present financial information to a non-financial audience
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Navision is preferred
  • Strong Excel skills and proficient with other MS Office applications
  • University degree or College diploma in finance, accounting or related discipline


Complimentary Experience:

  • Exposure to fundraising software is an asset (i.e.: Raiser’s Edge)
  • CPA Professional Education Program or similar designation would be considered an asset
  • Experience in a non-profit organization an asset
