A Day in the Life…

Reporting to the Manager, Computer Services, Education, the Educational Technology Technician provides customer service and technical user support to all Faculty, staff, students and guests at a Brock Satellite campus in a timely and accurate manner, by assessing technical problems, providing solutions to technology problems, and incorporating and adapting new technology and efficiencies into the Brock community.


As the Educational Technology Technician, you will:

  • Provide training on use of educational and information technology to FOE clients;
  • Identify, document, and implement IT efficiencies;
  • Configure and control inventory of educational technology equipment;
  • Install software applications and apply standard FOE settings to new equipment;
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and help users with teaching aid equipment;
  • Set up, test, monitor, and dismantle media and computer equipment for events;
  • Assist users with computer related and printing issues;
  • Solve complex technical problems in the areas of AV control systems and telecommunications;
  • Install, configure and troubleshoot problems with various hardware components;
  • Liaise with colleagues at central Information Technology Services (ITS) to ensure security policies are enforced and promote best practices for IT security in line with ITS security policies and ensure system administration is aligned with University standards;
  • Perform analysis, diagnosis, documentation, and resolution of complex IT systems problems for clients (Faculty/Staff) in the Faculty of Education (FOE);
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of on-going online educational resources in collaboration with the IRC, Instructional Design Technologist.
  • Program digital signage display for events on campus;


What you need to Succeed…

  • Ability to analyze technology alternatives and synthesize knowledge and information from various sources;
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to handle a variety of projects, competing deadlines, and schedules simultaneously under minimal supervision;
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to provide appropriate solutions;
  • A College diploma in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Knowledge of various software programs, business applications and internet browsers;
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to diligently document specific information;
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
  • Knowledge of AV system design and installation best practices;
  • Ability to remain apprised of trends and developments in the use of technology within an education environment;
  • Excellent analytical skills to diagnose and resolve software and hardware problems;
  • Working knowledge of anti-virus systems and of mobile devices including setup and configuration;
  • Relevant experience, preferably in an educational environment;
  • Strong technical skills and experience with audio-visual equipment, including projectors, microphones, speakers, and video conferencing systems;
  • Knowledge in the set-up, configuration, installation, and first-tier troubleshooting of operating systems, applications, educational technologies, computer hardware and peripherals, and networking;


Preferred or Asset Skills:

  • Windows, Macintosh, and/or user support training or certification.


Salary and Benefit Information

  • This position includes full comprehensive benefits coverage and tuition waiver.
  • Job Grade J, $48,409 - $64,294*;

* The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. Actual salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.
