Compensation Range
$7,278.33 - $11,372.33 CAD Monthly
The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Summary
Provides psychological services to UBC students at the UBC Vancouver campus, as part of an integrated team of multidisciplinary care providers. Participates in the training and supervision of graduate students. Provides consultation and outreach services to the campus community. Participates in the development and delivery of programs which enhance student wellbeing and success.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Director, Counselling Services within the integrated Student Health and Wellbeing unit of the VP Students Portfolio. . Works cooperatively as a member of an integrated team of multidisciplinary professionals, actively participating in and contributing to the development and delivery of effective and efficient mental health services. Works in collaboration with the Faculties and other University departments, student organizations, and staff in other areas of Student Health and Wellbeing and Student Services.
Work Performed
  • Performs other duties consistent with the mandate of Counselling Services as requested.
  • Coordinates the design, implementation, and analysis of program evaluation and research projects specific to area of coordination.
  • Provides individual and group counselling to a diverse student population .
  • Provides consultation services to counselling and healthcare staff on complex cases and to faculty and staff regarding the psychological concerns of students. Liaises with faculties, departments and other student services regarding the provision of programs and services which enhance student development.
  • Participates in the development of policies and procedures concerning counselling services and programs.
  • As requested, represents Counselling Services on University committees related to student development.
  • Develops and delivers psychoeducational workshops for students, as well as programs and publications to meet the needs of targeted segments of the student body.
  • Supports the department’s and the University’s strategic initiative and commitment to providing an inclusive and supportive environment for all community members.
  • Provides intake assessment, and referral within Counselling Services and to other University and community resources as appropriate.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development and regular case as a member of a team of professionals.
  • Provides clinical supervision and training for pre-doctoral interns in intake, assessment, supervision of practicum students, individual counselling and group counselling. Participates in supervision and training of practicum students in individual and group counselling.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Must be able to act with a considerable degree of autonomy and independence in the provision of psychological assistance to students while adhering to the ethical standards of the profession. Poor professional judgment or unethical practice by the psychologist could be extremely detrimental to the clients well-being and create situations of legal liability for the University.
Supervision Received
Acts independently within established clinical and ethical guidelines. Works within a model of colleagial consultation and collaboration, under the direction of the Director of Counselling Services.
Supervision Given
Supervision of pre-doctoral interns and practicum students,. May provide consultation to and clinical supervision of other counsellors.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology or a related field. Eligible for certification as a Registered Psychologist in British Columbia. Minimum of seven years of experience in clinical counselling plus experience supervising Doctoral level practicum students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Canadian Psychological Association accredited doctoral program and internship or equivalent preferred.
  • University or college counselling experience.
  • Ability to facilitate teamwork and the development of effective working relationships with a wide range of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Supervised doctoral internship completed.
  • Knowledge and experience in program evaluation and research.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and experience in program development, consultation and outreach.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
  • Possession of strong clinical skills, ability to work independently, the ability to manage a full client caseload, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in Clinical Counselling
  • Appropriate course-work and training in individual, couples and group counselling; career development, personality and career testing; measurement theory; adolescent and adult development; learning theory; responsiveness to diversity within the student population; personality theory and diagnosis and treatment of psychopathology.
  • Training and Experience supervising graduate students.
  • Demonstrated competence in brief, intentional individual and group counseling with diverse populations
