Job Description of a Clinical Psychologist A clinical psychologist is a mental health professional who provides assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. They must also have strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to interpret and analyze data. Additionally, clinical psychologists must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Job Qualifications Clinical psychologists must have a doctoral degree in psychology, such as a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) or a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). They must also be licensed in the state in which they practice. Additionally, many states require clinical psychologists to complete a certain number of hours of continuing education each year. Job Knowledge Clinical psychologists must have a thorough knowledge of psychological theories and principles, as well as the ability to apply them to their work.
