GSL is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to support children with Special Educational Needs, social, emotional, and mental health challenges. Some children may have experienced trauma and exhibit challenging behaviors. Identifying risks and needs, and escalating when necessary, is crucial.

This secondary school's specialist hub caters to ages 3-16 and values sincerity over qualifications. They have a range of SEN and Mental Health needs, from high functioning autism to lower cognitive ability.

Children may share personal information requiring safeguarding. Building trust by listening to their experiences is key before focusing on academics.

As a Teaching Assistant, you'll gain practical experience, expand your knowledge, and work closely with therapists. This is invaluable for aspiring Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Educational Psychologists, and others.

Many children with special educational needs face marginalization, trauma, dysfunctional family relationships, and low educational attainment. You'll provide consistency and empower them to succeed.

Professional Skills & Requirements

• Experience with young people with special needs is desirable but not essential
• Willingness to work 1:1 and in small groups with students
• Ability to plan learning activities suited to different abilities with teacher support
• Provides academic and pastoral support
• Encourages social skill development and supports individual needs
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
