Position Description
The Schulich School of Engineering (SSE) is pleased to invite applications for tenure-track Assistant Professor (Teaching) positions to lead active and experiential learning initiatives in the classroom. SSE is a strong promoter of innovative teaching and learning practices, with a focus on active and experiential learning.
The school has recently renovated an extensive amount of space to facilitate meaningful studio-based active learning classrooms where students can engage with classwork in a dynamic team-based environment. The first-year engineering experience at SSE is now delivered in a blended delivery mode, with a focus on active learning in the classroom. The active learning includes project-based learning, classroom demos, hands-on learning, discussions, worksheets, and others. This teaching style is demonstrated to support deeper learning and enhanced engagement for the students. In addition, the teaching model offers an exciting opportunity for academic staff to work, mentor and be mentored in a dynamic teaching team with other engineering education innovators.
SSE is currently seeking applications for tenure-track faculty members at the rank of Assistant Professor (Teaching) to be involved in the delivery of first year and upper year courses. Candidates with an earned doctoral or master's degree in Software Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Engineering Education or closely related Engineering degree or those who will have earned a doctoral or master¿s degree by the anticipated start date are invited to apply. Applicants should have the potential for excellence in Engineering Education Innovation.
The successful candidate is expected to eligible to register as a as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
Position Requirements
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
  • Ability to teach engineering design
  • Experience with innovative teaching practices, especially active learning classrooms and experiential learning
  • Technical expertise in the following areas: software development, programming, data validation, manipulation, and visualization
  • Experience working in industry or on industrial projects is an asset.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and leadership skills
  • A commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Engineering
  • Experience in sustainable engineering design is an asset.
  • Excellence or the potential for excellence in teaching at university level
