About The Role


We're looking for graduates from a range of degrees for different areas across our business. This requisition is for a role of Graduate Mechanical Engineer based at Rio Tinto Labrador City.


As the successful candidate, your role will include


Being involved in project identification, research, design, development, planning & scheduling, execution, and reliability of rotating and fixed equipment while supporting the safe and reliable operation of all areas of our Kennecott site. This opportunity will allow you to develop skills around asset management, risk management, work management, and reliability to enable you to excel in your career.

What You’ll Bring


To be eligible for the Graduate program, you must have completed your studies within the last two years (2022, 2023) or working towards graduation in 2024.


  • Bachelor or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related field
  • Right to work in the Canada
  • Less than two years of relevant work experience (local and international)
  • Willingness to learn and to make an impact
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Curiosity in learning a variety of technical applications of mechanical engineering
  • Ability to collaborate and ask questions
  • Interest in working in an industrial environment

Where you will be working


We are a leading North American producer and exporter of premium iron ore pellets and high-grade concentrate with average iron grades greater than 66%. With a team of over 2,400 employees, IOC is committed to providing value and continuity for our customers, employees, communities and shareholders through our unique mine to port approach, taking advantage of our full integration and wholly owned infrastructure to deliver our high-quality concentrate and pellets to our customers across the globe.


IOC’s operations include a mine with five operational pits, a concentrator and a pelletizing plant located near Labrador City in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. We also operate a wholly owned 418 km railway, the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway (QNS&L), that links our Labrador operations to Company-owned port facilities in Sept-Iles. This role is based in Labrador City.
