About The Role:

Neo Financial has an opportunity for a Data Developer (Master’s or Ph.D. Graduate) to join our team in Calgary, AB.

This position is for a recent graduate with a Master's degree (or higher) in a relevant field, who is looking to apply their knowledge and skills in a practical setting. As a Data Developer, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining our data infrastructure and systems.

We use a cloud-based, modern data architecture in our everyday work, including many state of the art tools and technologies. But we believe that a great data developer with the right fundamentals can learn any tech stack.

What you will be doing:

• Ownership of Projects: Take ownership of projects and systems in production, ensuring they operate at the highest standards and meet challenging Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
• Developing Standards and Reusable Components: Contribute to the development of patterns, abstractions, libraries, templates, and other standards that empower the team to work efficiently and avoid redundant efforts
• Collaboration: Actively engage in teaching, mentoring, and collaborating with others. Your knowledge-sharing and collaboration will contribute to a supportive and high-performing team environment.
• Optimizing Efficiency: You will actively contribute to improving our data platform, making it more efficient and scalable. Your ideas and insights will help us handle larger volumes of data, support bigger teams, and tackle more complex projects.
• Bar Raising: As one of our accomplished hands-on data engineers, you will set the pace and exemplify excellence within the team. You will demonstrate proficiency in writing Python/ SQL code for projects, including automated tests, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
• Maintaining Cloud Infrastructure: Assist in the maintenance and deployment of cloud infrastructure related to data. This includes ensuring data storage reliability, security, and optimal resource utilization.
• Building Solutions: Utilize our advanced data platform, encompassing Dbt, Snowflake, Apache Spark, Airflow, Kafka, AWS, and Databricks, to develop robust data solutions. You will leverage your technical expertise to build data pipelines, implement data transformations, and ensure data quality and integrity.

What we are looking for:

• Knowledge of data modeling, schema design, and database optimization techniques. You should be familiar with designing efficient data structures and optimizing database performance.
• Have strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a team environment
• Possess excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex data-related issues.
• Comfortable building solutions in cloud-based environments like AWS, Azure, or similar platforms. Familiarity with cloud services and deployment models is desirable.
• Experience working with tools such as Airflow, s3, and Databricks is a plus.
• Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada and willing to relocate as required.
• A solid foundation in SQL/ Python gained through coursework and practical experience during your program.
• A recent Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field is required
