The Social Worker role is a leadership position that is responsible for case management and care plans for people who identify as women. The Social Work team at WEAC will assess women’s needs to identify barriers to overall wellness and assist in building and engaging the women in their goal-oriented care plan using a trauma informed, indigenous world view.

What you bring to the team

  • You are able to embed in your work the practices of harm reduction, person-centered, trauma-informed, and strength-based care.
  • You have a proven ability to practice relationship-based approaches.
  • You bring 2+ years' of experience working with marginalized populations and have a solid background in conducting effective case management and producing practical care plans.
  • You are able to remain confident and calm. This work may involve de-escalating crisis situations with individuals under the influence of drugs or alcohol or experiencing a mental health crisis.
  • You possess a two year diploma in Social Work and are registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers.

  • You will use a holistic approach that connects women with different social and health programs and allows for the rebuilding of a natural support system that will sustain the long term physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing of the women.
  • Be a builder! Help establish the policies and procedures that will ensure a sustainable and effective shelter.
  • You will provide robust case management that ensures a successful transition out of WEAC and long term stability for the women.
  • You will mentor and grow the capacity of Community Support Workers ensuring that the goal orientated care plans are effective.
