What You'll Do


  • Champion a high performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
  • Drive client-centric, efficient, and compliant regulatory onboarding and ongoing reviews of GBM clients in Canada and across global offices. Facilitate the onboarding of clients directly as well as resolve day to day matters for the regulatory onboarding team through coordination with clients, trading desks/bankers, compliance, and senior management as required. Rapidly triage and escalate complex issues for resolution.
  • Continually acquire and enhance knowledge of both the Bank's and the Division's business strategies and policies, risk management practices and methodologies, product offerings, financial markets, financial instruments, regulatory requirements, Back Office processes, and rapidly changing competitive landscape to assist in driving continuous improvement in efficient and client-centric regulatory onboarding procedures. Create and develop a centre of excellence team focused on customer and to drive the client onboarding experience.
  • Provide leadership, day to day oversight, and workload management for the regulatory onboarding staff in Canada. Lead in the recruitment, management, and ongoing development of staff.
  • Play a key role in the ongoing development of both tactical process changes to centralize regulatory onboarding requirements for our businesses globally. Provide subject matter expertise in the ongoing structuring and continued robustness of the onboarding process including process changes required to ensure onboarding activities are compliant with regulatory reform impacting the division globally (e.g., Dodd Frank, FATCA/CRS, EMIR, etc.).
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions, and actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.


What You'll Bring


  • Recognized expertise of current and anticipated regulatory frameworks impacting client onboarding globally – namely, evolving KYC/AML standards, OTC Derivatives Reform, and FATCA/CRS. Local market experience in Canada, as well as broad exposure to regulatory trends and practices by key regional regulators, including OSFI, FINTRAC, CFTC, OSC, IIROC etc., is preferred.
  • A working understanding of AML/KYC regulatory standards and processes in GBM jurisdictions
  • An in depth understanding of capital market operations and trade lifecycle expertise, and working familiarity with the corporate and investment banking business
  • At least ten years of financial services experience. Preference will be given to direct experience dealing with regulatory agencies such as the NFA or CFTC, or in a similar position in the financial services industry.


Work Arrangement: This position is currently a Hybrid role, with the expectation that you will work two days a week in the office. Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
