Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture.

The Team

The Hedge accounting Team is a group of highly motivated BAs and developers, working on a in-house built highly complex application, to help meet the hedge accounting needs of our business partners in Accounting Policy, Group Treasury and GBM.

The Role

The incumbent implements Hedging Relationships under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) to ensure the Bank can qualify eligible derivative instruments for hedge accounting treatment in hedges, mainly involving portfolios of the Bank’s wholesale, retail & lending products, thus immunizing any volatility in the Bank earnings. The incumbent will also ensure that all policies, practices, and documentation are in place and in compliance with the standards as outlined by Senior and Executive Management, Bank Regulators, Auditors and industry best practices. The incumbent will work with all areas of the Bank to ensure the Bank has a robust derivative hedge accounting operation and add economic value to the front offices.

Is this role right for you?

  • Remain current with emerging industry best practices for hedge qualification through research, and critical reading of articles issued by regulatory bodies and industry associations. Also, ensure that these developments are effectively communicated to the Senior Manager.
  • Monitor hedging relationships to ensure they continue to meet the requirements for hedge qualification. This includes monitoring the cash flows of portfolio hedge strategies to ensure available hedge capacity is not exceeded. Prepare monthly reconciliations of hedge accounting results for various hedging units, involving primarily fair value hedges (FVHs) and cash flow hedges (CFH) using single or cross-currency interest rate swaps, and FX forwards.
  • Ensure integrity and accuracy of HAQS (Hedge Accounting Qualification System). Test existing system processes and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Develop and implement hedge relationships in compliance with the requirements for hedge accounting under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The processes will include identification, designation, and documentation, effectiveness testing, accounting, and reporting of hedge relationships.
  • Liaison with internal and external IT auditors.
  • Analyze the use of derivatives as a form of financial risk management to support benchmark rate reform project (SOFR Reformation).
  • Ensure product quality throughout the development process. Provide step-by-step instructions to fix issues; provide backup or workaround solutions whenever necessary.
  • Meet with key stakeholders to determine business system needs and requirements.
  • Coordinate various group initiatives/projects, such as the data collection from GBM Data Platform initiatives.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk etc.
  • Provide support for ad-hoc analysis, financial reporting, and disclosures.

Do you have the skills?

  • Ability to interpret applicable accounting standards for practical application to the Bank’s hedge qualification process. Knowledge of IAS 39 & IFRS 9 is required.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, attention to detail and communication skills required.
  • Ability to understand the attributes of the individual & portfolio of hedged items (products) and hedging derivatives, and how these attributes interact with each other.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of finance and financial products, including complex derivative structures that are used to manage and hedge risks associated with banking products. A good understanding of single and cross currency interest rate swaps, as well as foreign currency forwards, is key.
  • Benefit to have an accounting designation together with a minimum of two years related industry experience
  • Advanced PC skills, in database management (Access, SQL) and spreadsheet analysis (Excel) are required. Knowledge and prior experience with K2 or other derivative/valuation systems is desirable.
  • Broad understanding of the Bank’s structure, operations, accounting policies, and financial/regulatory reporting requirements is desirable.
  • A CFA/CPA designation is desirable.

  • We foster an environment of innovation and continuous learning
  • You'll get to work with and learn from diverse industry leaders, who have hailed from top technology companies around the world
  • We have an inclusive and collaborative working environment that encourages creativity, curiosity, and celebrates success!
  • We offer a competitive total rewards package, including a performance bonus, company matching programs (on pension & profit sharing), and generous vacation
