The Environmental Law Centre (ELC) is focused on advancing effective environmental law and policy and public legal education.The ELC’s mission is to advocate for laws that will sustain ecosystems and ensure a healthy environment and to engage citizens to advocate for the advancement of effective laws and policies.
The ELC is seeking an individual with a passion for helping organizations achieve their full potential, and experience bringing together unlikely partnerships to deliver high-impact programs and systems change.

The ELC is going through a period of growth and organizational change. The ELC is looking to recruit someone with strong project management and institutional funding knowledge to amplify and expand the ELC’s impact locally, provincially and nationally.
Using your network across the province and throughout the country, you will:
- Engage institutional and individual donors in relation to core projects and lead funding proposals
- Manage external funding applications by working across the organization with program staff to draft funding proposals, ensure that projects are delivered on time and achieve their goals by meeting reporting deadlines and leading the program evaluation process.
- Assist in developing and implementing fundraising strategy around core ELC program areas
- Oversee of communication planning and implementation;
- Drive strategy to advance critical relationships, narratives, and to position the organization as a leader in provincial, regional, and national advocacy around nature and regulatory evaluation
- Scan the local, national and international landscape for opportunities to support the ELC’s mission – to advocate for laws that will sustain ecosystems and ensure a healthy environment.
- Provide communications support to relevant stakeholder groups.
- Develop a partnership growth strategy to be implemented in conjunction with the Executive Director.
- Co-create action plans and metrics that align the ELC Strategic Plan (in conjunction with the Executive Director)
Candidates for this position should have 5+ years in the following areas.
- Proven track record writing successful funding proposals, ideally within the environmental field
- Team player with proven ability to work with all levels of staff within an organization
- Developing and implementing strategic plans
- Leading and mentoring a team
- Engaging and building relationships with a variety of funders, clients and donors from individuals to institutions
- Familiarity with environmental public policy at provincial and national levels.
- Understanding of program evaluation and reporting to funders. Familiarity with logic models and theory of change
- Effective identification, creation and stewardship of strategic partnerships
- Managing projects that bring together organizational talent to deliver on strategic goals and achieve desired impact with identified partners
- Self-starter
- Strategic thinker who is also a people person
- Excellent communicator, particularly when it comes to writing and negotiation
- Life-long learner curious about social and environmental justice
- Passionate about making their community and the world a better place
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, coaching and mentoring skills.
- Well – organized with the ability to help keep others on task and on deadline
- An understanding of non-profit/charitable organizational operations
- Ability to both coordinate different teams and participate in different team environments
Salary range dependent on experience
