Salford Group, a Linamar Company is a global manufacturer of farm tillage, application and seeding equipment. We are experiencing tremendous growth and have an immediate opening for a strong and experienced candidate to lead our purchasing team into the future.

This position oversees the overall Purchasing functions within the Salford Group including 5 plants located in Canada and the U.S. This includes developing and mentoring a team of dedicated buyers in each location, identifying and driving cost savings, developing Purchasing procedures and metrics, streamlining and improving purchasing processes, optimizing the MRP engine within our Infor/ERP system and, working closely with Quality and Engineering to improve Supplier performance.

Key Accountabilities

• Assist in the resolution of quality, commercial or servicing issues relating to suppliers.
• Participate with plants to identify strategic suppliers and purchasing initiatives.
• Identify best practices to ensure efficient procurement strategies, negotiations and agreements are in place in conjunction with the Linamar Global Operating System (GOS).
• Support the new business quoting process in conjunction with the Design Engineering team.
• Perform other duties/projects as assigned.
• Assist in the formulation and administration Group procurement policies and practices.
• Responsible for planning and directing all aspects of Salford Group’s purchasing policies, objectives, and initiatives globally.
• Outsourcing projects (breaking down components to establish target costs, processing RFQ’s, RFP’s and sourcing new suppliers).
• Negotiate supplier contracts to ensure servicing incentives are identified.
• Research and review new potential suppliers to identify the best total cost, technologies and servicing that can be made available to Salford.
• Develop strategies to more effectively utilize corporate purchasing leverage through consolidation with other Linamar businesses.

Academic/Educational Requirements

• Recommend Certified Professional Purchaser (CPP) designation.
• Post secondary education in business administration, commerce, economics, material management or related field experience.

Required Skills/Experience

• Advanced Microsoft excel is essential, as well as various other productivity-based applications and communications software.
• Negotiate contracts and resolve disputes with suppliers.
• 5 years of management experience, at a senior level in the procurement function.
• Communicate with co-workers, customers and suppliers about operational matters.
• Ability to work independently, but also work in teams with co-workers to ensure effective forecasting, product distribution and marketing. Collaborate with controllers and other buyers to make forecasts and build inventories that are compatible with their companies' sales strategies and budgets.
• Create spreadsheets for tracking inventory, planning ordering schedules and calculating costs for purchases.
• Analyze monthly sales for current and past years to identify seasonal variations in sales. Also, calculate year-to-date sales, average inventory levels, inventory turnover rates and order fill rates to diagnose purchasing and distribution problems.
• Negotiate terms with new suppliers and changes to agreements with existing suppliers.
• Able to read and interpret engineering drawings with the ability to communicate technical information to suppliers and engineers.
• Judge the quality of products. Evaluate quality of service provided by suppliers. Assess benefits and drawbacks of carrying particular products.
• MRP/ERP experience is essential to this role, ideally in an Infor/Syteline environment.
• Engage in continuous learning to keep up-to-date information on new products and market trends, and to operate new automated sales and inventory management systems. Learn through daily work experience, by reading trade publications and by talking with co-workers, colleagues and suppliers.
