Director, Commercial Trade & Partnerships


The position reports directly into the VP, Commercial Operations Operations. The Director, Commercial Trade and Partnerships will work very closely with our external trade partners in the retail, wholesale, hospitals and clinic areas. They will partner with the Business Unit groups, Market Access, Regulatory and Pricing. The position will also communicate frequently with the Consumer Health Division. As well, this position works with the platform functions (Customer Service, Supply Chain, credit, logistics, Finance). The incumbent will build relationships with our key customers within the Pharma distribution channel (wholesalers, GPOs, retail chains) for the purpose of growing our top line with new strategic relationships and programs. The Director manages new product launches to trade partners, Distribution Agreements (contracts), and strategic partnerships for Must Win Brands and Established Brands in General and Specialty Medicine. The Director also investigates new ways of reaching our market. This position has the potential to protect our bottom through the adherence of current contracts and terms of trade.

What you will do:


  • Managing and developing strategic partnerships


Direct distribution of pharmaceuticals with National Wholesalers supervising over $150M CDN in General Medicine and over $250M CDN in Specialty Medicine in French and English. Includes:


  • Exploring and developing opportunities to improve strategic distribution/awareness of Bayer pharmaceutical products to support Top Line growth
  • Negotiating terms and contracts with Key Wholesalers to support Bayer’s continued growth
  • Supporting Brand IBPs strategic imperative via tactics including unique distribution programs with the major trade, retail and purchasing groups
  • Established Brands Management
  • Liaise with Corporate functions ie Pricing, Customer Service, Credit & Logistics in the management of wholesale and retail chain business issues.
  • Protecting bottom line through the adherence of contracts and Terms of trade with Key Wholesalers.
  • Representing Bayer pharmaceuticals with trade associations


Exploring and developing opportunities to support Existing Brands after LOE via new partnerships and projects. Includes:


  • Directing the Teva contract (Adalat at $25M) to ensure continued distribution and maximized potential in complex model
  • Partner with Bayer PSP team to support Specialty Established Brands and forecasts
  • In partnership withSupply Chain, evaluate and determine pruning of older existing brands to align with True North Now strategies
  • Managing the Betaseron (SHN at $10M) Distribution Agreement to ensure continued patient access via simplified PSP support
  • Support Establish Brand forecasting in partnership with local Supply Chain Demand Planning
  • Investigate and develop unique promotional programs for Established brands utilizing current partnerships and new technology (iMCM) to drive awareness and uptake
  • Oversight of Wholesaler Database and Inventory Reports


Coordinate with external vendors to support the Trade channel by leveraging data analytics and providing value-added insights. Includes


  • Working with vendors to build required reporting to provide insights that will inform fact-based decision making aligned to Bayer objectives
  • Partnering with local Data Engineers to ensure understanding of and continued integrity of Wholesaler database
  • Monitoring local reporting to Global Inventory database (MARGO)

  • Organizational Management Experience
  • Strong and proven negotiation skills
  • University degree required
  • Minimum 2-5 years' Trade/Key Account Management experience in healthcare industry
  • Canadian Industry/Trade knowledge
