Why is this role important?
The CBC’s digital footprint is one of the largest in Canada which means you will have the opportunity to work with one of the largest datasets in Canada. We leverage in-house data and machine learning to enable CBC digital producers and product teams to make unified data-driven decisions.
The Analytics team is involved with collecting, processing and sending behavioural signals to analytics reporting services and machines to empower teams to make data driven decisions. This relies on understanding and improving the site and content metadata that our CBC digital teams rely on. The work done to improve the health of our metadata helps improve the ability for CBC to deliver amazing content to our audiences.
How You Will Make An Impact

• Standardize and normalize device ID provisioning across CBC and Radio-Canada
• As a Data Engineer we are looking for someone who can create, expand, optimize data pipelines to enable continued research into audience behavior. You will solve problems with data integration, and will be keen to work with both structured and unstructured datasets.
• Massively simplify analytics implementation and validation by unifying business logic with a server-side solution and data enrichment

• Our Data Engineer will join our Analytics team and be responsible for research, development and deployment of data integration methodologies e.g.

What You Could Bring To Our Team

• You thrive in an autonomous environment. You enjoy working with people and sharing your knowledge with them in a collaborative way.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably GCP
• The technical skills.
• You can quickly learn new technologies and respond to change by learning and adapting.
• The passion for machine learning and data
• You know how to listen and relay empathy and understanding for diverse perspectives.
• Lead and manage data lake ingestion and ETL tools
• Experience with data architecture and an understanding of data pipeline design principles. Implement business requirements through multiple phases of data pipeline design and development lifecycle. (i.e. database modeling, pipeline architecture/design, pipeline development, testing, support/tuning, etc.)
• You have a minimum of two years of experience as a Data Engineer working with big data.

• Experience with data streaming and distributed computing practices
• You will use modern tools to define, build and manage cloud infrastructure to gather, structure, and process millions of records from multiple sources to create clean and robust data models, at scale for analytics & data science applications
• A degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field is preferred. We value know-how over theoretical knowledge, we know not everyone gains their programming skills this way.

Assets

• Familiarity with Python and/or Java
• Certification in Google Cloud platform
• Experience with Continuous Integration / Development pipelines (CI/CD)
• Familiarity with end-to-end data science application development
• Experience with QA automation: You have experience enforcing and applying quality control for incoming and outgoing data.
