We are looking for a Data Engineer/Analyst to join our Financial Services Engineering team in Toronto.

As an Data Engineer you will be at the cutting edge of the alternative data space where you will develop market research products by gleaning valuable insights from a large set of diverse data sets. These insights are hidden within large amounts of data, and it is our goal to identify and separate the meaningful trends and patterns from the noise by applying statistical methods, big data technologies and high-level programming languages.

Responsibilities

• Build flexible solutions that can adapt quickly to changing requirements
• Practice disciplined engineering (testing, code reviews, and writing readable code)
• Maintain data pipelines that perform data transformation processes (such as extracting, cleansing, standardizing, mapping data)
• Work with our Data Operations team to identify, escalate and resolve potential data quality or data processing issues
• Assist internal and external customers in investigating anomalies in our datasets
• Work closely with our Equity Research Analysts to develop data pipelines to cleanse and transform data, for new market-research reports, develop ad-hoc queries and contribute to data requests

Qualifications:

Education

• Minimum B.S. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field

Technical Skills

• Experience with ETL Tools and Processes: Such as Apache Airflow, Informatica, for extracting, cleansing, and standardizing data
• PySpark Experience: Nice to have
• Familiarity with Cloud Providers: AWS, GCP, Azure
• Experience with Data Modeling and Database Design: Structuring data efficiently
• Knowledge of Big Data Technologies: Such as Databricks, Snowflake
• 4+ years of experience programming in Python and SQL
• Familiarity with Business Intelligence Tools: Such as Looker, Tableau, or Qlik
• Version Control Systems Knowledge: Such as Git, for code collaboration and management

Analytical Skills

• Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot data issues
• Strong Statistical and Analytical Abilities: Including predictive modeling and machine learning techniques
• Ability to Perform Extensive Data Analysis: Comparing multiple datasets using a variety of tools

Soft Skills

• Ability to Work in an Entrepreneurial Environment: Must be a self-starter
• Excellent Communication Skills: For interacting with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Collaboration and Teamwork: Emphasize collaboration with various teams within the organization
• Flexibility and Adaptability: Ability to adapt quickly to changing requirements
• Project Management Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
