Job Description

Who WeAre

BEworks is a global behavioral science consulting firm that specializes in applying behavioral insights to drive positive change and enhance outcomes for individuals, organizations, and communities. We work with clients across various industries to develop evidence-based strategies that help achieve measurable outcomes. It is our mission to leverage the power of behavioral science and apply it to the biggest challenges facing humanity today.

Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about understanding human behavior through big-data sets. We are in the fortunate position of working with many global clients around the world who ask us fascinating questions about the nature of human behavior and how to shift outcomes for the better. In many cases, this entails looking at all kinds of data from crowd flows to communications, household utility usage, and other large data sets amenable to discovery of insights. These data are usually collected during online or in-field experiments that we design and run. We analyse them using inferential statistics and modelling, among other analysis techniques. We are looking for a Data Analyst on a freelance basis with strong statistical and data visualization skills to help us answer key questions regarding our clients’ biggest challenges.

What You Will Do

You’ll be working with a team of passionate scientists whose everyday work contributes to making a real-world impact through scientific thinking and rigour. We work within a highly collaborative environment that promotes curiosity and learning.

As a Data Analyst, you will:

  • Contribute to designing experiments, in determining the data collection methods to use, and in building the tools required for the data collection (e.g., an online survey)
  • Support the team by bringing a specific focus on technical skills and practices, as well as further developing and applying those skills and practices
  • Build data analysis pipelines
  • Analyze data using various techniques that are best suited for the given problem at hand
  • Review and visualize data, primarily using R
  • Extract and prepare data for statistical analysis (cleaning and formatting)

Who You Are

We welcome candidates who have a passion for empirical research, are analytical problem solvers, and are driven by curiosity and continuous learning in a very dynamic team environment. Alongside this, we look for the following qualifications:

Background:

  • A Master’s degree or equivalent is required, preferably in one of the following areas: economics (empirical, experimental, or micro), psychology (preferably experimental, social, cognitive, or consumer), statistics, computer science, mathematics, judgement and decision making, public health or political science (with emphasis on empirical work), marketing (consumer behaviour).

What you know:

  • Strong knowledge of a variety of statistical and data analysis techniques including, but not limited to, sample comparison, descriptive and predictive modelling, exploratory data analysis and clustering algorithms.
  • Passion for the use of data and empirical evidence to guide strategy.
  • Hypothesis-driven data analysis and data-driven hypothesis generation.

Your skills:

  • Ability to acquire new knowledge and skills and transfer these learnings to the team.
  • Ability to select, adapt and effectively use a variety of analytical tools and statistical technique.
  • Experience with data visualization and results presentation.
  • Experience in R required.
  • Considered as assets: experience in experimental design, Python, SQL (or equivalent), command line, Bayesian modelling; familiarity with and interest in human psychology, behavioural science, and human research methods.
  • Analytical and conceptual thinking skill.
  • Ability to achieve high standards for the detail of data analysis as well as perspective taking on the bigger picture.

How you work:

  • High energy, self-starter who possesses a strong commitment to scientific rigour.
  • Deadline driven, organized, and able to manage multiple projects at a given time.
  • Willingness to learn new methods and technologies on the job.
  • Highly professional; able to give and receive feedback with maturity.
  • Adaptive to diverse and dynamic environments.
  • A team player with a desire to work collaboratively (the team works as a collective with multiple people involved in each project).

As we are committed to finding the right fit for this position, this posting will remain active until this role has been filled. We thank you in advance for submitting your application, however, only selected qualified candidates will be contacted.
