Purpose


The CIDA team at Scotiabank is at the forefront of the journey to transform the Bank into a data centric organization through impactful customer insights, innovative analytics, and well governed data. One of the main areas of transformation is the way data is produced, consumed, and managed at an enterprise level to drive business value. The aim is to provide a truly productized offering of re-usable data that can be delivered iteratively through a streamlined process and framework in order to meet the velocity that will allow data consumers to focus on delivering business value. We are looking to build our delivery team with influencers, makers, creators and industry leaders who will drive us forward.


As part of the Data Architecture team within the Data Office, the Director and Lead, Data Architecture & Analysis is responsible for leading the team to analyze data sources and write instructions how to build the enterprise reusable data set; design processes to collect central knowledge of data sources and their use cases in the Bank; and put together Scotiabank Business Information Model (SBIM) that captures the knowledge of how Scotiabank conducts business. This role will have three streams of teams reporting to it: Data analysis, Data sources registration and SBIM modeling.


Project work will involve close collaboration with the other areas of the Data Office and the Analytics teams, Enterprise Architecture (EA), Technology, Compliance and the Business lines.


Accountabilities


  • Helps defines and manages the Scotiabank Business Information Model
  • Interacts with Director and VP level stakeholders to understand data from an enterprise perspective
  • Drives consensus across domains to achieve enterprise consistency
  • Assists in cross-domain collaboration on data architecture initiatives across the organization
  • Assists in the selection of data architecture tools and technology decisions
  • Lead the Data Analysis, Data Source and SBIM teams to deliver governed data sets to Analytics teams and other Bank consumers of data
  • Works in an Agile environment to develop Data Office capabilities
  • Maintains a good understanding of the Bank's business strategies, business policies, risk management and IT processes and disciplines. This requires working with enterprise data management office, Governance and Technology teams to ensure that the data captured through other initiatives is readily available for usage across the bank
  • Analyzes data sources and work with business partners to enable the production of Business Source to Target Mapping (BSTM) document
  • Ensures organizational alignment to the enterprise domain taxonomy and data model
  • Provide thought leadership in defining data architecture standards and procedures that enable the production and use of reusable data


Requirements & Qualifications


  • Subject area experience with anti-money laundering compliance, RDARR, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, and regulatory compliance is an asset
  • Experience with collaboration tools such as Confluence
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, consistent with a customer focus and a deep understanding of the content and of business needs.
  • Ability to lead teams and to provide data vision within the data office and with our partners
  • University degree in relevant STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)
  • Experience in data project implementation lifecycles
  • Tools skills/experience: Data modeling or architecture software (e.g. ERWin), BI visualization software (e.g. Qlikview, Tableau), Data catalog software (e.g. Collibra), and Industry Data Models (e.g. Financial Services Data Model – FSDM) , Full-text Search (e.g. Elasticsearch)
  • Subject area experience with Financial Industry products and services preferred: Retail Banking/Lending, Commercial Banking/Lending, Capital Markets, and Wealth Management
  • Deep experience with data: source analysis, modeling, ontologies, metadata and data consumption
  • Hands-on experience with big data ecosystem tools such as Hive, Pig, Sqoop and Spark; and experience with NoSQL databases would be an asset
  • Ability to understand and suggest solutions to data design on an enterprise level
  • Experience using and implementing visualization tools like D3, Tableau or Qlikview
