Department Summary


Campus & Community Recreation is the host of multiple wellness activities and events that run throughout the University of Alberta campus. This includes recreational events and programs that are available at South Campus as well as North Campus.


Campus & Community Recreation offers programs and facilities aimed to meet the needs and interests of the broad range of communities that we serve. From group exercise to individualized personal training; from healthy living activities to physical assessments preparing for specific work environments; from recreational sports to elite sport training; and a range of ethnic and cultural dance, Campus & Community Recreation has the breadth and depth of activities to enhance the experiences of students, staff and community members alike


The role of Campus & Community Recreation is to contribute to the overall academic vision of the university. We support our communities (students, staff, faculty, and community members) to explore and enhance their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being through physical and social activity. We strongly believe in the power of recreational activities to support these needs.


Campus & Community Recreation offers a large, year round Intramurals, Club Sports, Outreach and Engagement Programs involving over 10,000 participants annually


Position Summary


Campus & Community Recreation provides overall management and coordination of the University of Alberta sport, recreation and wellness facilities and programs. The Campus & Community Recreation Coordinator, Promotion and Outreach will serve as the primary point person for CCR, coordinating a “single” voice for multiple units within CCR, overseeing and prioritizing promotion, outreach and engagement projects in conjunction with resources available through External Relations. This position will liaise with External Relations to coordinate, implement, and monitor a consistent approach to brand enhancement activities, digital communications, online projects and social media experiences that support the strategic goals of Campus & Community Recreation (CCR) and the University of Alberta. This position seeks opportunities to extend awareness of CCR programs/events/services/facilities to a broad audience both internal and external to the University. The Coordinator serves as a resource to the entire unit and links the multiple units of CCR to External Relations.


This position will coordinate projects with the CCR team members and engage with University External Relations to collaboratively develop effective promotional strategies through design development as well as through enhanced web and social media presence. This position will collaborate with University of Alberta Marketing and Revenue Generation to develop brand appropriate visual materials utilizing design, photography and video to capture the mission and values of CCR. The position will collaborate with UA Brand Awareness to design an array of promotional materials including uniforms and giveaways. A primary role of the Coordinator is to liaise with and utilize External Relations to create a smooth and responsive approach to brand enhancement and CCR programs/events/services/facilities awareness activities.


Duties


  • Responsible for monitoring other related social media outlets to be aware of emerging issues/opportunities related to the University of Alberta Campus & Community Recreation offerings. Elevates to CCR, F&O and ER as necessary;
  • Coordinate the Google events calendar (s),SUTVs, CCTV, locker TVs and website updates for Campus & Community Recreation;
  • Coordinates contracts with vendors and adheres to UofA financial policies and procedures;
  • Communicates relevant facilities and operations information to ensure all area staff and clients/participants are informed of activities that may affect them;
  • Coordinates photography, videography and audio-visual support when necessary;
  • Effectively support, attend and assist with the implementation and evaluation of a wide variety of events each year, including Campus & Community Recreation, Faculty, alumni, student and other recognition events;
  • Develops and executes, from conception to production, a wide array of promotional materials (including but not limited to signage, posters, banners, brochures, program guides, annual reports and presentations) utilizing a variety of print and digital media
  • Manages multiple competing project priorities and timelines estimating and reporting project completion schedule based upon project design briefs;
  • Monitor all CCR facilities for adherence to signage guidelines and use of UA branding;
  • Responsible for the ongoing stewardship of Campus & Community Recreation related websites, blogs, or other social media devices;
  • Assist with the administration of committees;
  • Liaise with managers, team leads, supervisors and coordinators to develop a promotional plan and execute the agreed plan;
  • Liaise and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Liaise with External Relations to coordinate, implement, and monitor a consistent approach to brand enhancement activities, digital communications, online projects and social media experiences;
  • Assist in the maintenance and monitoring of the Campus & Community Recreation website;
  • Plan, coordinate and implement all social media promotion needs for all units within Campus & Community Recreation;
  • Coordinate the Campus & Community Recreation participation in events coordinated by other alumni, faculties or departments;
  • In collaboration with the manager, programs, recruit, hire, train, monitor, supervise and evaluate recreation facilitators, interns, volunteers and practicum students;


Minimum Qualifications


  • University of Alberta Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention training will be required upon employment;
  • Environmental Health and Safety Supervisory Development training will be required upon employment;
  • Police Information Check required
  • Post Secondary Education in Event/Project Management, Design, Media Arts, other related area required;
  • Demonstrated organizational, planning, and time management skills;
  • Ability and experience working within a fast-paced, demanding environment with competing priorities;
  • Creative, energetic, and self-motivated;
  • Computer experience required;
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with cross-functional teams;
  • First Aid/CPR certification required
  • Excellent oral communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines while working on multiple projects at the same


Preferred Qualifications


  • Project management experience is an asset;
  • Experience with photography and videography an asset;
  • IntelliLeisure or knowledge an asset;
  • Experience and understanding of Google Drive an asset;
  • Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop knowledge an asset;
  • Experience and understanding of social media and website platforms an asset;
