What you’ll be doing


The Consultant is a key member of the Public Affairs team, which focuses on enhancing and protecting CIBC’s reputation with external stakeholders through media and public relations, investor and financial communications, and issues management. In this role, you will support a full range of internal and external communication disciplines to build awareness of CIBC’s Community Investment and Sponsorship initiatives, including CIBC Run For the Cure, CIBC Miracle Day, the CIBC Foundation and a broad portfolio of local and regional community and sponsorship initiatives. The role involves developing communication plans for both internal and external audiences; developing content including writing and editing, media relations, social media and communications advice that is both strategic and tactical. You will report to the Senior Director, Public Affairs, and will work with Community Investment partners.


At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.


NOTE: This is a 12-month temporary role.


How You’ll Succeed


  • Strategic Communications - You proactively gather facts and apply solid judgement in managing internal and external communications opportunities. You know what is “news” and have strong analytical and writing skills and know how to apply them to media releases, social content and key messages.
  • Reputation and Brand Management –Identify storytelling opportunities to promote CIBC’s community and sponsorship initiatives through earned and paid PR activities. Develop compelling media pitches and social content that helps build CIBC’s profile as a corporate community leader and strong, relationship-oriented bank.
  • Public Affairs – Proactively assist in developing and executing internal communications and PR strategies to engage key audiences through internal communication channels, traditional and social media, and events.

  • You have a degree/diploma in Journalism, Communications or related study and/or equivalent experience.
