The purpose of this role is to set and execute the strategy for the medical sciences function, by providing medical input to the business division(s). In addition, this position provides leadership to the Clinical Sciences function, Global Health Policy and related activities. This position is chartered with the responsibility to ensure that clinical trials are conducted in accordance with regulatory and corporate standards and consistent with BSC business and functional objectives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversees the management of the writing and editing of clinical and scientific documents for regulatory submission and scientific communication.
  • Provides high-level medical/therapeutic leadership and guidance to internal and external customers including project teams, other functional units, investigators, and regulatory agencies by formulating strategies to align with company direction and goals in the Clinical arena.
  • Working with business presidents and corporate leadership to fully understand and inform the needs of each business unit; Develops and implements divisional-level business plan, including but not limited to defining relationships, aligning team goals, and standardizing tools and streamlining systems.
  • Provides guidance to Product Development and Clinical project teams in all aspects of clinical trial planning, including protocol development, investigator selection, training of internal and external personnel, medical monitoring for trial safety, data analysis/interpretation, quality control and communications.
  • Helping to formulate technology strategy, including technology assessment and investment efforts in both internal and acquired technologies for the development of future product pipelines, as well as diseases and markets in which Boston Scientific does not currently have an established business.
  • Collaborating to ensure the safety and quality of our Company’s products throughout the product life cycle (from development to commercialization).
  • Leading a team of Medical Directors in the covered content areas, Medical Education, Clinical Communication, Clinical scientists and the Field Clinical Engineer teams to drive the direction, planning, development, conduct, analysis, presentation, and publication of worldwide clinical studies and product approval strategies and implementation in support of timely product approval from various regulatory agencies.
  • Serving as a spokesperson on matters of high significance with government regulatory agencies and key medical communities.
Quality System Requirements
  • In all actions, demonstrates a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance to the Quality Policy and all other documented quality processes and procedures.

Participates with other top managers in developing and establishing global function, multiple plant manufacturing facilities, business unit, division, and / or region wide policies.Develops and communicates a strategic vision for a division or business unit; participates in the development of the company vision.
Supervisory Relationships
Responsible, through Vice President level management, for overall global corporate staff functions, one or more functions in a major division ($2 billion revenues) or multiple divisions / regions, multiple plant manufacturing facilities, or head of a business unit. Determines actual organizational structures and allocation of subordinate management responsibilities.
Operations Involvement/Direct Work Involvement
Responsible for the overall strategic management and operation success of global corporate staff function(s), one or more functions in a major division ($2 billion revenues) or multiple divisions / regions, multiple plant manufacturing facilities, or head of a business unit and for successfully integrating these activities with those of other major organizational segments. Monitors progress toward and costs associated with the achievement of organizational goals; monitors the external environment including changes in the political and social climates, economic trends, market conditions, and international business. Identifies new business opportunities and strategic alliances; resolves major problems that affect multiple organizational units; anticipates changing demands or environments and initiates action to position the company appropriately.
Impact
Decisions affect the success of the global corporate staff function(s), one or more functions in a major division ($2 billion revenues) or multiple divisions / regions, multiple plant manufacturing facilities, or head of a business unit. Erroneous decisions or recommendations would normally result in failure to achieve critical goals and objectives.
Liaison
Serves as a principal spokesperson on highly significant matters for the global corporate staff function, one or more functions in a major division ($2 billion revenues) or multiple divisions / regions, multiple plant manufacturing facilities, or head of a business unit.
Required Qualifications
  • Author or Co-Author of clinical publications in major journals.
  • Significant experience with podium presentations at major cardiology society events.
  • Minimum degree of Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) is required
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in the field of cardiology, is required. Specific experience within Coronary Therapies and Structural Heart Valves.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Interventional Heart Failure is desired.
