Your Opportunity
This position will serve as technical lead for the implementation of the University's research discovery and analysis tool, DiscoverResearch which is an institutional online tool available to our broader research community and the public and allows internal and external users to discover research expertise within the University. The BI Developer will work as part of the project team on the implementation and the leveraging of data from our human resources, research and other systems along with external bibliometric services, to support and populate our research reporting information systems. The BI developer will also include supporting underlying datamarts for all the research reporting information systems. The BI will lead the development andtesting of all feeds and reports. The BI will facilitate technical connections to divisional and central systems.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
  • Writing complex technical code, designing, developing, testing, debugging and maintaining data engineering (ETL) pipelines, delivering and maintaining datasets, components and tools; testing and evaluating programming code to ensure it has validity, compatibility, and that it meets appropriate standards
  • Analyzing, recommending, and designing highly complex software architecture; Developing and updating architectural framework for highly complex and confidential university-wide applications
  • Preparing and maintaining product/system documentation; writing and delivering technical documentation and production support runbooks, assisting in developing guidelines and procedures for work methods and technical improvements of products.
  • Testing and implementing new or upgradeddata engineering projects; analyzing, developing and maintaining a formal description of the data & data structures;
  • Assessing and determining feasibility of programming requests and requirements, evaluating and testing products/procedures to ensure they represent the most efficient and cost effective choices.
  • Analyzing, recommending and designing technical solutions for highly complex technical problems, developing and/or customizing products to meet client's requirements, including designing, coding, and testing; these solutions may extend to desktop tools such as Excel;
  • Planning and implementing components of IT related projects
  • Keeping abreast of current information technologies and their applicability to products and services used/supported by the University
Essential Qualifications
  • Experience with testing user-facing applications
  • Demonstrable understanding of analysis and design methodologies using appropriate tools
  • Minimum four (4) years' relevant experience including in database engineering, in managing large scale data warehouse environments, developing data engineering pipeline and, with Informatica and other ETL tools.
  • Proficiency in SQL (DB2, SQL Server)
  • Strong knowledge of MS Excel and data integration programming
  • Proficiency with ETL tools including Informatica
  • Demonstrated understanding of analysis and design methodologies
  • Knowledge of AMS systems: FIS, HRIS or similar SAP-based data administration systems
  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Excellent development skills and ability to retrieve data from different relational databases

  • Experience creating mock-ups and designing modern user-interfaces
  • Demonstrated understanding of web-based client/server technologies
  • Working knowledge of API layer, HTML, HTTP REST API, and web development and integration
