As a junior building energy consultant, you will develop energy models and assist with information gathering, analysis, takeoffs, and other project delivery tasks. We aim to build an open and collaborative environment where growth, training, and mentorship are encouraged.
Our ideal candidate has a relevant degree in engineering, an interest in or experience with energy modelling and sustainable building design, and good computer and communication skills. Our preferred candidate would have used a whole-building energy modelling software such as EnergyPlus, IES-VE, Design Builder, or eQuest, in coursework or in previous employment, and would be familiar with building systems including HVAC systems and envelope thermal performance.
The successful candidate’s day-to-day work will include takeoffs using Bluebeam and Excel, energy model development using Sketchup, OpenStudio, and EnergyPlus, as well as analyzing results and writing reports, with assistance and support from experienced staff.
Role and responsibilities:
- Assist with information gathering, takeoffs (e.g. R-value takeoffs, lighting takeoffs), and other analysis tasks under direction of experienced staff
- Prepare clear and concise written reports fully documenting analysis
- Develop energy models using EnergyPlus, Rhino, Grasshopper, Sketchup, OpenStudio, and other tools
- Interpret design drawings, conduct necessary calculations, develop required documentation with guidance from senior staff
- Interpret and analyze results of energy models under direction of senior staff
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Knowledge of Python an asset
- Willingness and interest to do computer analytic work
- Eligibility to register as EIT or P.Eng. required
- Strong initiative and good time management
- Ability to shift focus as priorities evolve, while maintaining attention to detail
- Previous experience with energy modelling preferred (via coursework, work experience, or otherwise).
- Aspiration to be a lifelong learner
- Ability to communicate effectively by way of excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- Designation such as Passive House or LEED GA an advantage
This position will be primarily in-office at our Burnaby office.
Regular travel is not anticipated for this position; occasional travel may be requested of you but is negotiable. You may be asked to attend meetings throughout the lower mainland. A car is not required for this position.
