My Sister's Place and London Coffee House are drop-in programs that foster a vibrant community of individuals who are experiencing, or at risk of homelessness, promoting a welcoming and non-judgmental culture and providing a reprieve from the stigma that is so often felt in other community settings.


As the baker in the Outreach Nutrition Program, you will be responsible for preparing homemade baked goods that are shared in our Outreach Programs, ensuring that clients receive nutritious meals. You will also lead a monthly cooking group for women at My Sisters’ Place, teaching daily living and wellness skills.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:
  • Your pension plan – Immediately eligible for optional enrolment in Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)
  • The above are initial rates; with grid increases as per policy
  • When you'll work – 40 hours over two-week period; Morning Shifts
  • What you'll be making - $19.13-$22.04 (Program Support I Grid)
  • Internal staff members will be placed on the appropriate grid based on their current rate of pay, up to Level 8 of the grid (see Intranet Policy - )


PSLRTA Notice - This posting characterizes this position as currently non-union. However, please be aware that the organization on September 29, 2022, a vote was held as a result of an application by the Organization under the Public Sector Labour Relations Transition Act. HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:


Food Preparation:


  • Other duties as assigned
  • Design menu for weekly baked goods
  • Prepare and serve daily morning nutrition baked goods for approximately 150 – 200 participants
  • Purchase baking supplies and equipment needed to produce healthy, from scratch healthy baked items


Additional Food Preparation Duties Specific to Coordinator Position:


  • Coordinate and facilitate collective kitchen and other nutrition and life skill knowledge for women on a monthly basis
  • Ensure grocery inventory is accurate and up-to-date
  • Conduct weekly food ordering and grocery shopping and store all purchased food
  • Engage with donors when accepting food donations and ensure donor recognition
  • Coordinate with community partners and stakeholders when appropriate


Home Cleanliness Duties:


  • Coordinate with community partners and stakeholders when appropriate
  • Ensure kitchen is clean in accordance with health unit regulations
  • Coordinate the delivery of garden programs for women


Support Services:


  • Train and oversee students with respect to cleaning standards & procedures
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation and statistical gathering, as required
  • Provide a welcoming, safe, and trusting environment for vulnerable men and women
  • Working with the MSP team to increase women’s capacities, housing stability and overall well being
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Attends workshops, courses and events to promote and enhance the baker program
  • Train and oversee kitchen students and volunteers
  • Protect and promote the welfare, dignity, and individual rights of participants at all times


WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:


Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements


Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 2 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.


We require the following qualifications:


  • Clear, current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
  • First-Aid and CPR
  • Safe food handling certification
  • Knowledge of Canada’s Food Guide and an ability to utilize this information in the nutrition program
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly


We prefer the following qualifications:


  • Experience using harm reduction, feminist, relational/cultural and recovery theories
  • Demonstrated ability to work with women who live with multiple challenges related to marginalization, mental illness, substance use, complex health challenges, street-level sex work, poverty, homelessness, woman abuse and trauma
  • Post-secondary education in social services, mental health, addictions or a related field (preferred)
  • Knowledge of, and excellent relationships with community resources and community partners
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate and maintain a fast-paced kitchen environment, with a keen ability to multi task
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention and Prevention (CPI) (preferred)
