Assistant Nutrition Manager


Full-Time



Position Summary


Assists the Nutrition Manager with managing all aspects of food services, housekeeping and laundry services to meet the nutritional and care needs of the residents/tenants. Ensures effective and efficient preparation and delivery of food, housekeeping and laundry services in keeping with legislative compliance and budgetary constraints.

Qualifications And Skills Required


  • Knowledge of Canada’s Food Guide
  • Food and Nutrition Management Diploma from an approved College and/or University degree in Food Service and Nutrition
  • Proficiency with computers (Microsoft Office)
  • Must possess a Valid Food Handler’s Certificate
  • Member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in food services, preferably Long Term Care, with progressive leadership roles
  • Must be proficient in using Synergy on demand, Point Click Care and Sysco Source
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
  • Cultural sensitivity to the German Mennonite heritage
  • Solid understanding of Ministry of Health Compliance Reviews
  • Current (within 6 months) original and acceptable Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screen
  • Human relations skills required to handle a variety of interactions with all stakeholders of Tabor Manor/Pleasant Manor, (i.e., Board and liaison members, families, residents/tenants, volunteers, staff, and constituents of the Mennonite community)
  • Solid customer and client relationship skills
  • Proven management, leadership and coaching skills
  • Superior communication skills (oral and written) to handle interactions with residents, families and staff
  • Experience in budgetary maintenance and reporting


Key Responsibilities


  • Assist with training of staff on a regular basis
  • Ensures compliance with all Long Term Care regulations and established policies and procedures
  • Assist in RAI-MDS documentation of residents
  • Prepare and/or supervise the preparation and service of all meals and nourishment’s following specified menus and standardized recipes
  • Maintain operational records, as required (e.g. menus, production charts, food and refrigeration temperatures)
  • Carries out other tasks and duties that may be assigned by the Nutrition Manager
  • Ensure proper usage, maintenance and supply of all department related equipment
  • Assist the Nutrition Manager in controlling the operational budget for the Dietary, Housekeeping, Laundry Departments
  • Assists with staff scheduling
  • Assist with the purchase, receipt, storage and control of department supplies, which may include inventory controls
  • Assume the responsibilities of the Nutrition Manager during his/her absence
  • Works with Dietician and other members of the management team
  • Follows infection control procedures
  • Assists in updating dietary records based on resident profiles, diets, diet textures, nourishments and supplements
  • Ensure Dietary, Laundry and Housekeeping staff are compliant with policies, procedures, including safety, sanitation and safe working practices
  • Assumes responsibility for the operation of the Dietary and Environmental Services department in the absence of the Nutrition Manager. This would include being on-call for weekend coverage and vacations.
  • Assist with the recruitment, orientation, supervision and performance of staff
  • Attend Resident Care Conferences in the absence of the Nutrition manager
