Program Overview – After 4 & Neighbourhood Programs, Homeward Bound & Neighbourhood Programs


The Neighbourhood Programs encourage the social, physical, intellectual, cognitive, and emotional growth of each child through a balanced use of high-quality activities and experiences. This position is responsible for contributing to the provision of quality services to the children and their families. The Assistant Supervisor, After 4 and Neighbourhood Programs will assist the Supervisor in overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of the After 4 and Neighbourhood Programs. The Assistant Supervisor will be responsible for supervising a team of program staff, ensuring program quality and effectiveness, and building positive relationships with program participants, families, and community partners.


What You Will Do


  • Communicate regularly with parents, school administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure the program is meeting the needs of the community.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to program activities, including attendance, and any incidents or accidents that occur.
  • Assist Supervisor with staff and volunteer recruitment activities to ensure proper program staffing.
  • Oversee the snack program by procuring necessary supplies, monitoring expenses, and preparing meals that adhere to Health and Safety regulations.
  • Represent the program at community events and meetings and participate in professional development opportunities as needed.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants, including maintaining a safe and clean environment, monitoring children’s behavior, and responding appropriately to any incidents or emergencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Provide individualized support to children with special needs and working with staff to create suitable programming.
  • Build positive relationships with program participants, school administrators, and other stakeholders by providing excellent customer service and fostering a welcoming and inclusive program environment.
  • Manage the reward system that has been implemented to handle behavior and build a positive community and classroom.
  • Create job postings, scheduling interviews, interviewing applicants and on-boarding staff and volunteers for all Neighbourhood programs.
  • Assist the Supervisor in planning, implementing, and managing day-to-day operations at both locations, ensuring they align with program goals and objectives.
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of program budgets and expenditures.
  • Coordinate weekly staff schedules ensuring that adequate supervision for the children is always provided.
  • Plan and implement extended care programs in compliance with the funder contract.
  • Supervise program staff by scheduling, training, coaching, and supporting them all while providing guidance and mentoring on program planning, delivery, and behavior management.
  • Oversee creating and implementing age-split programming that is suitable for different stages of development and learning.


What You Bring to the Team
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR is preferred.
  • 1+ year of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Bachelor's degree in education, social work, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience working with youth in a community-based setting, including program development, implementation, and evaluation.
