Program Overview – Walk-In Counselling, Community Care


The Walk-in Counselling Program is an innovative mental health resource that provides immediate, free access to high-quality clinical counselling to a diverse client population. This Program offers an immediate, free counselling session to adults, couples, families, and youth on a walk-in basis, serving clients at their chosen time of need.


The counselling service addresses a multitude of emotional/behavioural/social concerns, many serious and acute, with no restrictions based on age or catchment area.


What You Will Do


+


Coordinate Walk-In Counseling program and provide clinical oversight and quality assurance on the nights when the service operates.


+


Develop and update program manuals/protocols, and materials to ensure compliance with organizational, funder-specific, and accreditation standards and requirements.


+


Coordinate scheduling of staff and volunteers to ensure sufficient coverage.


+


Ensure the effective utilization, training, and support of volunteers and students throughout the various programming activities, including liaising with colleges, universities, community agencies, private practice practitioners, and hospitals.


+


Recruit and train volunteers; implement recognition activities, and enhance volunteer base.


+


Implement ongoing promotion/awareness building of program and related programs with the immediate and broader community.


+


Create and maintain virtual client files as per WoodGreen policies and procedures.


+


Identify and implement mechanisms for community and client input to support organizational quality improvement measures and foster ongoing enhancement of the program.


+


Identify and actively participate in existing and new partnership initiatives to enhance the program and promote its reach and sustainability.


+


Engage in active outreach and stakeholder engagement to support development of the community of practice/network.


+


Participate in local and city-wide networks on behalf of WoodGreen.


+


Complete statistical reports and submissions, and maintain all records and forms regarding visits and program/activity enrollment, using a client information database in a timely manner.


+


Prepare and monitor program financial information, support development of funding proposals and develop and oversee Walk-In Counseling budget, and ensure it is adhered to.


+


Initiate, develop, and facilitate implementation of the evaluation framework for the program.


+


Support program development and evaluation activities to plans and implement new services and initiatives that build on and enhance the objectives of the program.


+


Facilitate team consultations, providing clinical supervision, guidance (individual and group), and promote peer supervision to support quality client care.


+


Supervise Program staff and conduct ongoing and annual performance appraisals in accordance with organizational policies and protocols.


+


Provide clinical oversight, ongoing orientation, supervision, mentorship, training, and support to staff, volunteers, and students in the program.


+


Provide direction and support to staff and volunteers regarding program issues; engage in team building and debriefing of crises incidents.


+


Respond effectively and professionally to clients, situations, and emergencies.


+


Ensure compliance with organizational policies, Collective Agreement, and legislative requirements.


+


Engage in training and education to upgrade skills to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.


+


Keep current about the range of services available within the organization and other agencies.


+


Take part in team, unit, and management meetings for the purposes of ensuring coordinated and integrative programming, and resource sharing.


+


Participate in regular supervisory sessions and annual performance appraisals.


+


Ensure that the equity objectives and community development policies of the organization are achieved within the program.


+


Be familiar with the policies and procedures and the site-specific emergency procedures.


+


Represent the unit on internal staff committees, inter-agency initiatives.


What You Bring to the Team


+


M.S.W or Graduate degree in Psychology or graduate degree in related Field.


+


Member in good standing with Professional College in Ontario.


+


5+ years of clinical experience in mental health and/or addictions and the ability to develop effective services for individuals and communities facing these challenges.


+


2+ years of progressive leadership experience, preferably in a unionized environment.


+


Personal knowledge and lived/living experience of issues that affect communities and populations served by WoodGreen is a strong asset.


+


Demonstrated commitment to principles of social justice, anti-oppression, anti-racism, equity and inclusion.


+


Effective September 7, 2021, all newly hired employees will be required to provide proof that they have completed an approved course of vaccination against COVID-19 at least 14 days prior to commencing employment or provide documentation to support an exemption based on grounds covered by the Ontario Human Rights Act (i.e. Medical exemption).


What Will Set You Apart

Knowledge of psychotherapeutic counseling with individuals, couples, youth and families.

Experience providing individual and/or group clinical supervision.


+


Strong assessment, relationship building, clinical skills, and ability to effectively utilize various therapeutic strategies/modalities and interventions to achieve optimal client outcomes.

Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and related legislation, mental health recovery and harm reduction principles.


+


Experience in program development and evaluation.


+


Ability to foster and maintain partnerships and develop and implement community development initiatives.


+


Strong organizational, leadership skills, team building skills, and strategic planning.


+


Experience in supervising staff, students, and volunteers.


+


Thorough knowledge of community resources.


+


Experience working with diverse and marginalized communities.


+


Familiarity with funding, budgets, and financial management.


+


Strong conflict resolution, negotiation, crisis prevention/intervention, and multi-tasking skills.


+


Excellent time management, verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.


+


Excellent judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity to changing situations and needs.


+


Strong computer proficiency and familiarity with client data management systems.


+


Experience working in a multidisciplinary team and fostering a supportive/dynamic culture.


+


Second language is a strong asset.


+


Must be capable of fulfilling the physical and psychological demands as detailed in the PDA.
