Job Description

The Clinical Coordinator, Patient and Family Counselling Services, reports to the Regional Services Clinical Manager and works in conjunction with the Psychosocial Oncology Communities of Practice (PSO COP) in providing a province wide approach for clinical services, education, community engagement and research in psychosocial oncology. Develops evidence based practice and programs, and is involved in the planning, implementation and evaluation of clinical services in the regional program. Supervises up to and including eight (8) Health Sciences Professional FTEs and provides clinical direction and evaluation of assigned staff. Performs clinical, educational, community engagement, research and administrative duties.


What you’ll do

  • Recruit staff and conduct performance appraisals. In conjunction with the Provincial Director, Psychosocial Oncology Program and Human Resources staff, participate in progressive disciplinary action as required.
  • In conjunction with the Provincial Director, Psychosocial Oncology Program, develop and monitor the budget for Patient and Family Counselling.
  • Implement and coordinate the psychosocial oncology program on a Regional level by developing annual goals and objectives in conjunction with Provincial Program priorities for the provision of services to patients and families.
  • Provide clinical supervision and consultation for Patient and Family Counselling staff.
  • Work in conjunction with the Provincial Director to develop and maintain centre professional standards regarding training, staff education, quality management, workload, patient care, and research.
  • Collaborate with the Provincial Director and Regional Clinical Coordinator, Psychosocial Oncology Program in the development, implementation and communication of evidence based provincial psychosocial practice standards, guidelines and procedures and clinical tools.
  • Prepare work schedules and other operational duties, ensuring adherence to the appropriate collective agreement. Approve vacation and leave applications; approve time records for submission to payroll.

What you bring

  • A minimum of two (2) years experience in an oncology setting is preferred.
  • Eligible for registration with designated professional regulatory body or association..
  • Master’s degree in a social sciences discipline relevant to the job from a recognized program, such as Social Work, Counselling Psychology, or Clinical Psychology.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a medical or interdisciplinary health care setting, including two (2) years in an administrative/supervisory position, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience deemed appropriate by the Agency.

You will also be able to demonstrate:

  • Ability to organize work, establish and meet priorities and be self-directed.
  • Leadership skills necessary to provide clinical direction and consultation to staff.
  • Skills in CPR techniques.
  • Expertise in research design, statistics, psychosocial research methodologies and measurement
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to use computerized systems and statistical software applications such as SPSS.
  • Knowledge of community, social and health care programs.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to establish effective liaison with members of the interdisciplinary team, the host hospital, community agencies and the public.
  • Planning skills necessary to develop, manage and evaluate effective clinical programs.

  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
