Excellent In House opportunity in Montreal (or possibility for an international location) to work as an Assistant Director Legal Services - Sanctions and Financial Regulatory Compliance for a worldwide organization. Our client is seeking a lawyer with approximately 8-12 years of pertinent experience re: economic sanctions and financial regulatory compliance to join their existing team. This lawyer will advise and provide strategic guidance on various legal matters in this exciting hybrid role.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for supporting all key stakeholders regarding regulatory compliance risks.
- Coordinate re: all reporting and notification activities to banks and regulators re: sanctions matters;
- Work with the Compliance Department and others as appropriate to develop an efficient regulatory compliance training program; and
- Provide legal advice on diverse matters, including but not limited to: sanctions, financial regulatory matters and anti-money laundering;
- Draft and advise on agreements, contracts, governance matters, and policies;
- Assist and support the Compliance Department re: policies and procedures as well as regarding investigating potential non-compliance matters;
- Act as a liaison with regulatory authorities regarding disclosure and other related matters;
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have/be:
- A law degree and be admitted to practice law in Canada or the US;
-Approximately 8-12 years of pertinent legal experience in increasingly responsible positions;
-Experience in engaging with regulators on sanctions and/or financial payments regulation matters;
-Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and project management skills; and
-Able to work autonomously and within a team dynamic;
