Our client is a rapidly growing Media Company and is publicly traded in TSX Venture Exchange. Powered by the world’s top creators, artists, and influencers, they provide advertisers with the most effective access to a digital-first demographic.
At this time, they are looking for an assistant corporate controller committed to delivering top-notch controllership, consolidation and external reporting services.
This role is 100% remote and reports to the Group Controller located in Toronto, Canada.
Responsibilities and Duties
Consolidation and external reporting: 40%
- Lead process improvements to streamline the consolidation and external reporting processes and improve information quality.
- Responsible for all aspects of consolidation and TSXV and other external reporting requirements: Fully own consolidation and compilation of financial statements, management discussion and analysis (MD&A) and footnote disclosures.
Controllership: 50%
Responsible for all aspects of accounting and finance operations in North America and Ireland:
Accounting and Financial Reporting
- Fully own integrity of financial data, delivering financial information with no significant errors in Canada and Ireland. Manage month-end close. Perform all balance sheet account reconciliation and analysis for Canadian and Irish entities. Resolve all unreconciling items or variances in a timely manner.
- Support the annual audit and quarterly review activities with external auditors, as required.
- Manage the accounts receivable and accounts payable processes of the Canadian and Irish entities.
- Evaluate all significant accounting transactions; research and implement relevant accounting technical standards. Be a Subject Matter Expert (“SME”) of IFRS, providing guidance to regional and business unit controllers.
2. Corporate Finance
Oversee share capital, intercompany and M&A accounting processes, ensuring transactional efficiency and completeness of the sub-ledgers and general ledger. Manage technical accounting matters, including carrying out research and documentation for a variety of complex and non-standard transactions such as mergers and acquisitions, share-based compensation, debt offerings, new initiatives, adoption of new standards, as well as general corporate accounting matters.
3. Management Reporting, Financial Planning & Analysis
Compile a management reporting deck on a monthly basis. Fully own financial analysis of the Canada and US operations, partnering with the QUSA business unit controller. Perform various financial analysis monitoring the corporate and business units’ financial condition by collecting, interpreting and reporting on financial data. Facilitate and coordinate strategic planning and forecasting across the Company. Facilitate effective and consistent information exchange across the Company for decision- making.
Qualifications and Skills
- Detail-oriented, hands-on, superior analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex issues into actionable points
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, and meet deliverables while building relationships with all stakeholders
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Accounting designation (CPA, CA) or working toward obtaining the designation
- Committed to getting the job done in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure
- Strong technical knowledge in multi-currency consolidation and external financial reporting (quarterly/annual report and MD&A)
- Strong technical skills in accounting and consolidation under IFRS; subject matter expert on IFRS with the ability to research and analyze new and proposed accounting guidance; knowledge in the US GAAP is desired but not required
