Job Title: Application / Software Architect - Cloud Solutions

Location: Remote or CBSA location at Vanier Towers, 333 River Road, Ottawa, ON

Contract Duration: 2 years (with an optional 1-year extension)

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in developing frontend applications using web development technologies, such as HTML5, CSS3, Typescript, and JavaScript frameworks like React, Next, and Angular within the last 10 years.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in developing and architecting IM/IT applications within the last 15 years.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in designing and documenting architectural specifications for APIs or integration between new and existing systems located on multiple platforms, including Cloud, using AWS and/or Azure within the last 5 years.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience working on large Information Technology (IT) development projects within a large IT environment (defined as an organization with 300 or more IT professionals) with a budget of at least 1 million.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in developing backend code using server-side programming languages like Typescript, Python, or Java within the last 10 years.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in developing High Availability Systems using Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Azure within the last 5 years.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in documenting and designing architectural specifications for Cloud-hosted applications within the last 10 years.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in developing Cloud databases using DynamoDB, Aurora, CosmosDB, Postgres, or RDS within the last 7 years.

Responsibilities

• Establish toolsets and processes to support cloud development and operations, including CI/CD pipelines and version control systems.
• Analyze, classify, and integrate the required solutions and services.
• Assist in the selection, preparation, and migration of legacy applications and data to the cloud environment.
• Support the transition of cloud applications into an operational state and provide guidance and mentoring to CBSA staff in areas of cloud development, including frontend and backend development, API integration, and overall cloud architecture.
• Deploy and manage compute, storage, and other computing resources.
• Set up and configure virtual private clouds, virtual networks, firewalls, application gateways, load balancers, and other necessary network infrastructure.
• Prepare and maintain platform and software-based services for application development, testing, and migration in the departmental cloud environment.
• Ensure the security of infrastructure, platforms, services, applications, and data, including identity and authorization credentials.

Additionally, the candidate should have experience in the following areas:

• Creating conceptual, logical, and physical designs for application architectures in a public cloud environment.
• Developing and executing comprehensive testing strategies, including automated testing.
• Designing scaling sets of virtual machines and cloud-based authentication solutions (including single sign-on and multi-factor authentication).
• Developing implementation plans for deploying application architectures in the cloud.
• Providing guidance on cost optimization for cloud operations and incorporating serverless design in application architectures.
• Performing testing, debugging, and optimization of cloud-based applications.
• Identifying and reporting bugs, issues, and performance bottlenecks for resolution.
• Designing High Availability, elastic cloud services, and database-as-a-service solutions.
• Troubleshooting and resolving deployment and configuration issues.
• Designing deployment strategies for secure remote access, load balancing, private networks, and re-usable environments in the cloud.
• Designing user-friendly and responsive frontend applications using cloud-native frameworks and technologies.
• Developing scalable and efficient backend code, integrating with databases and cloud storage solutions.
• Researching and recommending technical approaches to address challenging development and integration problems in cloud-based application architectures.
• Integrating APIs with third-party services and implementing secure communication protocols.
