Community Housing Support Worker


Program: Horizon Place (Youth)


Position Type: Full Time


Schedule: Monday-Wednesday (10am-8pm) & Saturday (10am-8pm)


Wage: $22.20 - $25.37


Job Summary


Bonaventure Support Services is a dynamic and expanding social service agency on Vancouver Island. We offer a broad range of services, supports and opportunities to adults, children and youth who live with diverse abilities. Our focus is person centered with goal directed options, encouraging full participation in community. As a Community Housing Support Worker, you will follow the direction of the Program Manager, and function as part of a team to provide for the daily living needs of individuals both in their home and in the community. You will be responsible for enhancing one's quality of life, ensuring the physical, emotional, social, recreational, economic, educational, and/or medical needs of supported individuals are met. A key component of this role may be crisis intervention and risk management, recognizing behavior as communication and promoting positive behavioral intervention strategies, following program approaches in a consistent, safe, and competent manner. You may be required to provide mentoring and support when working directly and relationally with high-risk, vulnerable Individuals.


Responsibilities


  • Ability to support individuals to communicate needs, choices, and preferences, and to support the use of inclusive communication strategies.
  • Work in collaboration with MCFD, CLBC, VIHA, DDMHT, HSCL, Behavior Consultants, etc. and the Bonaventure Leadership team.
  • Promote respectful treatment of individuals and defend individual rights, including demonstration of a high degree of tolerance for the individual's unique personalities and challenges.
  • To support and promote a friendly and effective working relationship with family and team members.
  • Perform all duties in a safe, efficient manner upholding the health and safety requirements of the program and report any health or safety concerns.
  • Adhere to any relevant Legislation and Regulations (Motor Vehicle Act, CLBC, MCFD, CARF, WorkSafe-BC, Employment Standards).
  • Demonstrate a high degree of tolerance and respect for a supported individual's unique personality and challenges, while promoting one's dignity and rights.
  • Ability to recognize behavior as communication and promote positive behavioral intervention strategies, following program approaches in a consistent, safe, and competent manner.
  • Provide mentoring and support when working directly and relationally with high-risk, vulnerable Individuals.
  • Assist individuals with the activities of daily living involving their personal and health care, behavioural, nutritional, recreational, social, vocational, educational, and environmental needs as identified in their person-centered plans (PCP).
  • Apply crisis intervention and risk management strategies.
  • Uphold the Policies and Procedures of Bonaventure Support Services while modelling our Mission Statement, Values and Code of Ethics.


Qualifications


  • Preferred formal education (Diploma or Degree, CSW, RCA, SIVA etc.) and/or work experience with persons with diverse-abilities and/or other relevant experience.
  • The desire and ability to work with persons with diverse-abilities and demonstrate personal suitability to promote dignity, independence, individuality.
  • Excellent interpersonal behavior and communication skills
  • Ability to stay calm and focused in stressful situations.
  • Must be in good health with the physical ability to carry out the duties of the position and shift responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently in a sometimes high stress environment.


Required Documentation


  • Food Safe Certificate.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Signed Bonaventure Hire Package.
  • Physician's Declaration.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate including CPR.
  • Immunization Records.
  • RCMP Criminal Record Check (Schedule A - Employer will file).
  • 3 Reference Letters - (One must be a most recent employer).
  • Proof of COVID-19 Full Vaccination or Exemption.
  • TB Screen.
  • MCFD CRC Hub Screening Review (Employer will file).
