Adjunct Instructor - Carpentry - Empower Women In Trades

Corporate Development, Applied Research and International (CDARI) is SAIT’s face to industry. Our instructors and staff are passionate about student and instructor success, in an environment that values applied academic excellence, teamwork, collaboration and driving innovation. Our non-credit courses are aligned to industry and designed to meet the needs of employers today and in the future.

The division centralizes and supports industry clients to develop customized non-credit corporate training for their employees and take their innovative product and process ideas to market locally, nationally and internationally. Within CDARI sits a number of support functions including Business Operations, Continuing Education, International, Corporate Training, Applied Research, and Business Intelligence.

We have an exciting engagement coming up with one of SAIT's corporate clients - Manpower - for their emPOWER Women in Trades program. This government-funded program is designed to help women develop skills required to seek employment within the Trades industry. As such, we are looking for an Adjunct Carpentry Instructor who will be able to provide introductory-level training for learners who are new to the trade.

The Role:

• Maintain records for the purposes of grading, assessing professionalism and tracking attendance in both theory and lab classes if given the course outline
• Show personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning
• Manage the classroom or lab to ensure a positive learning environment
• Adhere to all safety legislation, guidelines and safety standards as required
• Achievement of School initiatives and Objectives
• Attend all SAIT training as required
• Provide on-going support, guidance and advice to students
• Maintain contact with relevant industry sectors
• Prepare and present lessons, lectures, assignments, quizzes, exams, lab activities and lab demonstrations for learners if applicable given the course outline
• Be an active and engaged member of the School
• All other duties as required for the position

Qualifications:

• Prior teaching or training experience in adult education is an asset
• Fluent in English reading and vocabulary
• Ability to read, interpret and deliver specific curriculum
• Comfortable speaking to the public
• Experience with videoconferencing technology (MS Teams, WebX, Skype or Zoom)
• Positive & respectful attitude
• 2 years of experience as a Journeyperson in a variety of installation and service environments is desired
• Experience and fluency with Office 365 (MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
• Excellent communication skills
• Minimum Alberta Red Seal Journeyperson Certificate
• Ability to organize and present written information

Desired:

• Experience with curriculum development or instructional design
• Formal training in online technologies
• Training and knowledge of adult learning fundamentals
• Experience with a Learning Management System (Brightspace or Moodle is an asset)
• Previous teaching experience
• Formal training or education in facilitation or teaching
