Manager, Trades and General Labour

Experience with budget management, including planning, analysis, and decision-making

Completes performance management review process for faculty and staff, ensuring annual goals and development plans are established as required

Oversees program delivery and ensures effective management and quality assurance of the teaching and learning processes for assigned portfolio

Responsible for management of specialized shop spaces, including safety, equipment and maintenance

Minimum seven years of relevant work experience in education or a related field, such as teaching, program coordinating, and/or administrative leadership

Relevant industry experience with current knowledge in fields such as manufacturing, trades or other relevant is preferred

Support Maintenance dept with pro-active reporting stewardship, site safety loss prevention observations, and support for site safety, security, and environmental programs.

Participating in safety programs/meetings and attending training

Support journeyman mechanic with day-to-day activities

Grade 12 high school diploma or GED equivalent is required

Valid driver's license and a safe driving record are required for this position

For operations, 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate is an asset

Receive, inspect and log any fuel or lube oil deliveries to plant sites. Immediately report any spillage of products to Manager.

At least two years' related mechanical or electrical experience required.

Experience with annual inspections and maintenance of LNG or cryogenic facilities would be an asset.

Participate in the continuous improvement of the Health & Safety program, Environment program as well as NTPC’s safety culture.

Responsible for the day-to-day routine maintenance of the Inuvik LNG facility, also support annually inspection of main & auxiliary LNG equipment

Monitor assist and report progress of outside contractors.

Minimum of five years general industrial mechanical maintenance experience including repair and installation of all types of mechanical equipment

Grade 12 Technical, or Trade School or equivalent

Demonstrated ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Demonstrated ability to use the tools and equipment of the trade

Must be willing to provide own hand tools of the trade

Demonstrated ability to bend, crawl, lift heavy items, climb and work from ladders and scaffolding

Knowledge and experience in computer systems (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite) and educational technologies (i.e. D2L)

Staying current in the fields of math and numeracy, adult education, skilled trades, and technology

Supporting the operations and management teams in the development and maintenance of Math Consultant training documentation and best practices

Preparing reports and proposals as requested by management

Assisting with the proposing, planning, and delivering of targeted programming to support numeracy skills for Trades & Apprenticeship students

Participating in appropriate Student Success initiatives and special events (e.g. Orientation, co-curricular workshops, special events with a focus on academic skills)

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification

Understand and apply a variety of skilled maintenance techniques used in various Parks trades.

Keep records and inventories as required; make recommendations on hard and soft landscape improvements.

Provide instructions and information to other staff as required.

Occasionally respond to general enquiries from the public and other departments.

Must have effective interpersonal skills, including tact diplomacy and flexibility to work effectively with management, staff, contractors, and the public.

Communicating with F&M managers and other department leads on project details and ensuring expectations are exceeded.

Must have at least 3 years of general experience as a painter.

Must have thorough knowledge of the established methods, practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the painting trade.

Aerial Work Platforms Certification is an asset.

Must have knowledge of Work Safe BC Regulations.

Typing, filing, photocopying, word processing and data entry.

Record keeping, minute taking, and report compilation.

Ordering, receiving, and stocking equipment and supplies for the department.

Updating and maintaining program procedure manuals and handbooks, and

Responding to student inquiries/requests for information.

Answer the phone in accordance with SIIT standards; transfer calls where appropriate and take messages as required

First Nations and Inuit secondary and post-secondary students aged 15 to 30 inclusive

Ordinarily resident on reserve or in recognized communities or on community lands

This work term runs until August 25, 2023.

There may be some Summer Student positions that require students to meet the following criteria:

Issue tools and equipment to workers and maintain records of tools and equipment issued and returned

Perform minor building maintenance/repairs in the T&I shops that require the ability to safely use a variety of tools/equipment

Move, deliver, assemble and record inventory records of tools and supplies associated with the T&I programs

Maintain inventory of tools and supplies

Locate lost or misplaced tools and equipment

Prepare periodic inventory of tools and equipment.
