Job Description
Corporate Development, Applied Research and International (CDARI) is SAIT’s face to industry. Our instructors and staff are passionate about student and instructor success, in an environment that values applied academic excellence, teamwork, collaboration and driving innovation. Our non-credit courses are aligned to industry and designed to meet the needs of employers today and in the future.


The division centralizes and supports industry clients to develop customized non-credit corporate training for their employees and take their innovative product and process ideas to market locally, nationally and internationally. Within CDARI sits a number of support functions including Business Operations, Continuing Education, International, Corporate Training, Applied Research, and Business Intelligence.


CDARI is working with Kal Tire to deliver Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship training. The focus for this position will be instructing students in the Theoretical and Laboratory training portion of the program.


Schedule for Delivery:


July 4, 2023 to August 25, 2023


Monday to Friday on SAIT Main Campus


12pm - 3pm: Theory delivery


3pm - 4pm: break


4pm - 7pm: Lab delivery


The Role


  • Attend all SAIT training as required
  • Be an active and engaged member of the School
  • Show personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning
  • Other duties as required for the position
  • Present lessons, lectures, assignments, quizzes, exams, lab activities and lab demonstrations for learners if applicable given the course outline
  • Maintain records for the purposes of grading, assessing professionalism and tracking attendance in both theory and lab classes if given the course outline
  • Manage the classroom or lab to ensure a positive learning environment
  • Adhere to all safety legislations, guidelines and safety standards as required
  • Provide on-going support, guidance and advice to learners
  • Instruction in Automotive Service Technician theory and practical curriculum
  • Instruct and demonstrate course outline objectives, projects, and outcomes
Qualifications


  • Positive & respectful attitude
  • Training and knowledge of adult learning fundamentals
  • Excellent communication skills
  • You must have at least five year's recent industry experience as a Journeyperson in Automotive Service Technician trade
  • Certified Red Seal Journeyperson Automotive Service Technician
  • Experience in maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of passenger vehicles
  • Experience in Health & Safety requirements related to the Automotive Industry Environment
  • Experience with videoconferencing technology (MS Teams, WebX, Skype or Zoom)
  • Ability to read, interpret and deliver curriculum pertaining to the Automotive Service Technician trade
  • Comfortable speaking to the public and have the ability to engagingly convey conceptual and practical course subjects to diverse students and learning styles
  • Previous teaching experience would be an asset
  • Formal training or education in facilitation or teaching
  • Experience with Office 365 (MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to organize and present written information
