Adjunct Instructor - Preventive Dentistry Module (Pdm) Ceps

SAIT’s Centre for Continuing Education and Professional Studies focuses on the non-credit programming for the individual learner. We create courses and programs for life-long learning with career at our core. Our courses range from exploring general interests to up-skilling for career advancement and reskilling for career changes. We complete all background activities required to set up our products for students to purchase and experience several delivery options.

Preventive Dentistry Module (PDM) Instructor will provide advanced training to Registered Dental Assistants to perform the restricted activity of limited dental scaling. This course has various components including self-study, pre-clinical, clinical on-site and practicum in a sponsoring dental office.

This course is scheduled to run Fridays 1pm - 9pm, Saturday and Sunday 8am - 5pm.

The Role

• Attend all SAIT training as required
• Adhere to all safety legislation, guidelines and safety standards as required
• Achievement of School initiatives and Objectives
• All other duties as required for the position
• Maintain contact with relevant industry sectors
• Be an active and engaged member of the School
• Show personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning
• Maintain records for the purposes of grading, assessing professionalism and tracking attendance Manage the classroom or lab to ensure a positive learning environment
• Prepare and present lessons, lectures, assignments, quizzes, exams, lab activities and lab demonstrations for learners if applicable given the course outline
• Provide on-going support, guidance and advice to students

Qualifications

• Previous PDM teaching experience is considered an asset
• Ability to organize and present written information
• Experience with videoconferencing technology (MS Teams, WebX, Skype or Zoom)
• Fluent in English reading and vocabulary
• Ability to read, interpret and deliver specific curriculum
• Experience with a Learning Management System (Brightspace or Moodle is an asset)
• Experience and fluency with Office 365 (MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
• Training and knowledge of adult learning fundamentals
• Excellent communication skills
• Formal training in online technologies
• Relevant field experience within the last six (6) months
• Applicant must be registered with the College of Alberta Dental Assistants (CADA) or College of Registered Dental Hygienists of Alberta (CRDHA)
• 1-2 years of experience in training or teaching
• Comfortable speaking to the public
• Positive & respectful attitude
• Minimum 2 years of clinical experience
• Formal training or education in facilitation or teaching
• Desired:
• Registered Dental Assistant with the PDM skill or Registered Dental Hygienist with full scope of practice
