Adjunct Instructor - Virtual Power Engineering Sessions (Corporate Training, 2023)

Corporate Development, Applied Research and International (CDARI) is SAIT’s face to industry. The division centralizes and supports industry clients to develop customized non-credit corporate training for their employees and take their innovative product and process ideas to market locally, nationally and internationally. Within CDARI sits a number of support functions including Business Operations, Continuing Education, International, Corporate Training, Applied Research, and Business Intelligence.

The Role

We have an exciting new opportunity to deliver 90-minute virtual learner support sessions to one of our corporate clients - AV Group, in partnership with the Government of New Brunswick. These sessions are designed to support learners who are currently enrolled in SAIT's suite of 2nd Class and 3rd Class online asynchronous courses. These learner support sessions will take place 2-3 times per week over a videoconferencing system, such as MS Teams or Zoom. There is minimal structure to these sessions, with the successful candidate answering questions from students during the sessions.

During the engagement, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Attend all SAIT training as required
• Be an active and engaged member of the School
• Achievement of School initiatives and Objectives.
• All other duties as required for the position
• Manage the classroom environment to ensure a positive learning experience for all learners
• Updating the course(s) homepage with your contact information so students can reach out with their questions
• Provide on-going support, guidance and advice to students
• Facilitating virtual learner discussion sessions with students, and answering questions from learners on the fly
• Maintain contact with relevant industry sectors
• Adding a welcome message in the Announcements section of the course's home page in Brightspace/D2L, and including your contact information
• Adhere to all safety legislation, guidelines and safety standards as required
• Show personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning
• Maintain records for the purposes of grading, assessing professionalism and tracking attendance in both theory and lab classes if given the course outline

Qualifications

• 2+ years of relevant industry experience required
• ABSA 2nd Class Power Engineering Certification required. Proof of certification will need to be provided in your application
• Experience with videoconferencing technology (MS Teams, WebX, Skype or Zoom) required
• 2nd Class Power Engineering Certificate required; 1st Class Power Engineering Certification is preferred
• Completion of SAIT's suite of 3rd Class and/or 2nd Class Power Engineering courses considered an asset
• Previous experience teaching SAIT's suite of 3rd Class Power Engineering courses, and/or SAIT's suite of 2nd Class Power Engineering courses considered an asset
• Experience with a Learning Management System (LMS) such as Brightspace or Moodle
• Experience and fluency with Office 365 (MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
• Ability to organize and present written information in a clear and concise manner
