Job Description
Corporate Development, Applied Research and International (CDARI) is SAIT’s face to industry. Our instructors and staff are passionate about student and instructor success, in an environment that values applied academic excellence, teamwork, collaboration and driving innovation. Our non-credit courses are aligned to industry and designed to meet the needs of employers today and in the future.


The division centralizes and supports industry clients to develop customized non-credit corporate training for their employees and take their innovative product and process ideas to market locally, nationally and internationally. Within CDARI sits a number of support functions including Business Operations, Continuing Education, International, Corporate Training, Applied Research, and Business Intelligence.


The Role


Our Continuing Education & Corporate Training opportunities are typically scheduled during the daytime (i.e., Monday to Friday 8 am to 3 pm in short blocks) to suit a diverse learner population, ranging from students upgrading foreign credentials to those changing careers mid-life. Our learners are mature, focused, and want to be challenged.


The Instructor's role is to professionally manage the learning process of the students and to ensure that students achieve established learning objectives to the maximum of their potential. The instructor is to make use of any and all available resources, methods, techniques and strategies, to ensure student success. The candidate is expected to work collaboratively with colleagues to create a learning environment which is pedagogically sound, technically supported and innovative in nature.


Note: We are currently building our talent pool for potential contracts during the 2023-2024 Academic Year. Hours are not guaranteed; you will only be contacted if a teaching opportunity becomes available.


During each engagement, the successful candidate will be responsible for:


  • Attending all SAIT training as required
  • All other duties as required for the position
  • Presenting lessons, lectures, assignments, quizzes, exams, lab activities and lab demonstrations for learners if applicable given the course outline
  • Achieving of School initiatives and Objectives
  • Being an active and engaged member of the School
  • Maintaining records for the purposes of grading, assessing professionalism and tracking attendance in both theory and lab classes if given the course outline
  • Maintaining contact with relevant industry sectors
  • Showing personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning
  • Managing the classroom or lab to ensure a positive learning environment
  • Adhering to all safety legislation, guidelines, procedures and safety standards as required for all face-to-face facilitation
  • Providing on-going support, guidance and advice to students
Qualifications


  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills
  • Equivalent combinations of education and industry experience may be considered
  • Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel
  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience working as a Power Engineer in a 2nd or 1st class plant , with a focus on specific areas including: operation of boilers, turbines, refrigeration systems, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and other industrial equipment
  • Valid 1st or 2nd Class Power Engineering Certificate registered with ABSA
  • Customer service focus and strong relationship building skills
  • Well-developed presentation and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Previous teaching experience is an asset
